Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Originally built in 745, this temple has long and important history. Not a well known tourist attraction, so it's usually quiet and peaceful.

A nice walk and worth quick visit. You can visit this in one day along with many other sites too ~ all within nice walking distance ~ don't use cars or buses in Nara!

During the Nara period, it was the pinnacle of all the provincial nunneries in Japan, and was founded by Empress Komyo. In addition to the main hall, which was reconstructed by Toyotomi Hideyori, and many other national treasures and important cultural properties, there is also a worthwhile attraction, such as the "Karaburo" (reconstructed in the Edo period), said to be the oldest sauna in Japan and used for the health of the common people. Perhaps because it was a weekday, there were no visitors and I was able to explore at my leisure.

There are three nunneries in Nara, and this is one of them. It is a temple associated with Empress Komyo, and while Todaiji is the general provincial temple for the whole country, Hokkeji is the general provincial nunnery. It is a temple associated with the Imperial family and is visited by members of the Imperial family. Although it is such a historic temple, it is very quiet and there are fewer tourists than the Todaiji and Kofukuji areas. I happened to be there when the nun was chanting. The nun's sutra was gentle, and it felt like listening to a song. I felt like I wanted to listen to it forever.
Another thing is that Hokkeji has a bathhouse called "karafuro". It is a steam bath and is similar to a modern sauna. It is said that Empress Komyo washed the dirt off the nearby residents. This is now a spot that sauna lovers aim to visit (maybe that's an exaggeration).
There were also free drinks in the rest area.
If you go close to closing time, it seems that the closing time, including the parking lot, is strict, so it is best to allow plenty of time for your visit.

The Buddhist statues and cultural assets enshrined here, including the national treasure Eleven-Headed Kannon, are simply magnificent.
The temple grounds are fairly spacious and well worth a visit. However, the garden doesn't seem well-maintained and is overgrown with weeds. It is a scenic garden after all, so I felt that more care should be taken. If you visit, make sure to focus on the Buddha statue.
