The Edo period castle is full of valuable antique items and surrounded by city walls, towers, moats, bridge, gate, garden and city viewpoints. When the leaves change color or cherry blossoms, it is the most beautiful. Value for money and visit time.

Worthwhile a visit if you pass by Wakayama. The "castle" has a small enclosed garden but excellent 360 deg views from the top. It houses a desultory museum with a few samurai armor suits and shogun scrolls. Its most impressive feature is the overall strategic design, which is brilliant - I tried to imagine what it 'd take to take this castle by force in 17th century. The Tokugawas clearly knew how to build a defensive fort.…

The castle is very well-preserved externally, though on the inside you'll find that it is more a museum of overall warfare than a history of the castle. The grounds are stunning, too. It's well worth a visit.

It was early November when we travelled to Osaka, and we did a day trip to Wakayama. We went to see Wakayama Castle and the Fish Market. We used the stairs going up to Wakayama Castle (not senior friendly) , and once you are there you are greeted with a snack / souvenir shop, ninja's, and a beautiful garden. Inside the castle is a museum of different samurai uniforms and swords. Also the view at the top is breathtaking.…
