Visited by accident when going for a walk along the Fukuoka main street. Lovely grounds, seriously impressive Buddha and the guides were lovely and friendly!

See the big Buddha (actually from 1980's), nice buildings and a magnificent solo cherry tree (try to visit during Hanami time). The rest of the garden (yard) is also worth exploring.

The Tochoji Temple is a beautifully-maintained 9th century temple, featuring a bright orange pagoda tower and the largest wooden seated Buddha sculpture in Japan. The grounds of this little temple are lovingly maintained, and the whole effect is both charming, beautiful, and contemplative.

The grounds here were nice, and the temple space itself, although largely reserved for Buddhists, still provided some nice views into the space. The smell of incense mad it all feel special, and we hit the gong-bowl and made a donation. That all said, my...More

Big wooden buddha, but you can't take a picture! Grounds are very small, but very nice. New pagoda on property. The best is the path that goes thru the buddha...you must do this!
