If you reach the top of this small mountain, a great view of Mt. Sakurajima and the surrounding area will greet you. There is bus service that can take you from Kagoshima station to the middle of the mountain. There are also hiking trails which you can use. At the base of the mountain there is the castle ruins of... More

It was a good 15-30 mins walk to the top of Shiroyama, but I think there were options to take a vehicle up. It was pretty cloudy the day I went up, and almost late afternoon so it was starting to turn dark. Nevertheless, you can see the aerial view of the city below, which I bet would be even nicer... You can walk to the top of Shiroyama instead of taking a bus. It takes 30 - 40 minutes, but it depends, of course, on how fast you walk. It is a good hiking course.

After returning from Sakurajima, I decided to bus up here for a pre sunset view. I found that only the Explorer bus stop by Mt. Shiroyama. Boarded the 2nd last timing bus up and took the last bus down at around 6pm. The aerial view of Sakurajima and the surrounding areas is gorgeous! It is worth the trip for some... More

Nice view and easy access by city bus. A footpath allows to walk down to the city. Worth a stop on the way to the gardens.

On a day with clear sky, you will be able to get stunning views of Mt. Sakurajima and Kagoshima. Great spot for photography. As the distance from Mt. Sakurajima, an active volcano, is quite near, you amy want to consider bring some face masks to protect against ashes emitted from it. If you have time, do visit Terukuni Shrine also.

Mt. Shiroyama offers a great walk, with several points of interests up the way (statues and such). The walk up may take up to 20 minutes depending on the path you choose. But the best thing about this mountain is actually its view of another mountain. From its summit there a great viewpoint of Mt. Sakurajima. And if it isn't... More

For wonderful views over the city towards Mt Sakurajima a trip to Shiroyama is worth it. A stop at the Siroyama Castle hotel will reward with the hotel bakery and offer shop.
