We went here on a whim, when the weather looked like it was going to be bad. We really enjoyed seeing the interesting fish and sea critters in the aquarium. It wasn't too crowded, even though it was a holiday period.

The aquarium is right on the water next to the bay. Similar to the Osaka aquarium, it has a large main tank with a whale shark. Other smaller tanks have nice displays and the creatures seem well taken care of. All in all, a nice place to spend a rainy day in Kagoshima. Note, easily reached by the tram line... More

Being a dolphin lover I was a little nervous about visiting this museum as the pool Where they perform is very small! It was a great show, the Dolphins seemed really well cared for, and they have a larger area to swim in outside the pool. I'm still not convinced it's a great environment for the animals, but I do... Impressive exhibits and good place to head if it's raining. No much info in English but enough to know what you're looking at. Dolphin show is entertaining, but somewhat cheesy - kids would love it.

It is a nice aquarium with a great view of Mt Sakurajima at the upper floor. Except I am a sad to see the medium sized whale trapped in a fairly tiny tank.

Pros: The dolphins are very active, and the outdoor show can be viewed for free just along the sidewalk and bridges. Also, there's a whale shark in an impressive aquarium up the main escalator. Cons: It's overpriced. Many of the displays are lacking. There are simply fish in a bare aquarium with maybe a little sand laid down. Also, the... More

We really enjoyed our visit to this stunning aquarium! A must see when in Kagoshima! Attentive staff, lots of species, some sharks and rays included, the creatures reflect the local undersea wildlife.

The aquarium must be good if the emperors son pays a visit (30/10/15). + plenty in English + regular events (dolphin show) + easy to get to + 300 yen off entry with "welcome cute pass"

Although I am a biologist and am not for things like dolphin show but I was there and I have seen it. I must say it's totally impressive. I love these animals. I had the a nice time at the aquarium eating jellyfish ice cream.
