Sakura in full bloom

Finally jagged Sakura in absolute full bloom. So the whole park was a delight in late April. Not a lot of historic elements, but is a good place to stroll

Within this park is the historical Morioka Castle Ruins. This is a beautifully maintained park that contains numerous and interesting artifacts, including the totem pole that bridges Morioka with Canada, various statues, traditional Japanese garden bridges, and the ruins of the castle. This is a wonderful place to just stroll around in or you can stay longer and enjoy a... More

We came at the height of the cherry blossom and the park was full but still very enjoyable. There are many monuments and statues for those of historical importance to this area and great views over the city.

We discovered this park while just strolling around Morioka and it's a little gem as a place to grab some solitude, see a few ducks and some lovely specimen trees.

Iwate Park is just past the main shopping and eating area if you are coming from Morioka Shinkansen station. There are the remains of Morioka Castle and throughout the park you will be able to see artifacts from Canada as Morioka city has a sister city in Canada. Close enough to visit from town but once your in the park... More

The area was originally the site of Morioka Castle. The castle was demolished in the mid 1800s. The area has been tuned into Iwate Park with the walls and moats of the castle remaining.Pleasant to walk through.
