- Haytham Abu FirasQatar20,603 contributionsArbat StreetThis street is for pedestrians only. It’s about 1 km where you can walk, run, sit or find any nearby shops, restaurant, cafe or do whatever you want. Many people like to visit this place. You can listen to a music from the shops or some locals.Visited October 2023Travelled with familyWritten 24 October 2023
- Frances BYorkshire, United Kingdom2,396 contributionsA fantastic street to stroll along, anytime of the dayArbat Street is mainly pedestrianised, aside from the odd bicycle or motorised scooter. Irrespective of the time of day, it has a wonderful vibe and frequented by all different age groups. During the day there were some nice craft stalls and ice cream stalls, and cafes and restaurants spilling onto the pavements. There are also nice sculptures which are great for photographs. On an evening the area is lit up. There are many buskers who are singing or playing instruments, all of which are lovely to listen to. The restaurants are also nicely lit up and many people were still dining outside while I was there. This is a must see on your visit to Almaty. It doesn’t take long to walk around this area and it is very central for many other attractionsVisited October 2023Travelled soloWritten 6 November 2023
- Bozeman-DublinTrim, Ireland11,334 contributionsLively Busy StreetWe enjoyed a visit to Arbat in the evening, a busy street full of shops, bars and restaurants. Probably the liveliest part of Almaty, at least from what we saw. It has a great atmosphere with street performers, locals and tourists, at least it did on our summer evenings!Visited August 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 1 September 2024
- EdwardSanta Rosa, California2,974 contributionsNice Pedestrianised Street for Food and EntertainmentA portion of Zhibek Zholy Street in Almaty is pedestrianised and referred to as Arbat, after the street in Moscow. It forms a centre for strolling, eating, shopping, and entertainment, and especially evening activities. It is often lively, primarily in the evening, and there are not only many eateries and shops, but also street vendors, fountains, and more. It is fairly attractive and has some nice buildings along it. It lacks the architecture or the number and variety of vendors and activities of similar but more grand streets which we have explored in other cities, but still is nice, worth a visit, and offers a number of places to eat and shop.Visited July 2024Travelled with familyWritten 30 September 2024

if you do not visit this place, you have missed something.a unique pedestrian experience in the evening with an accordion playing artist and the works.local painters, street artefacts and cafes with great food and greater prices.a meal for four with beer would cost around Rs.4000.00

A wide clean walking pavement with nice shops & malls on each sude. Fountains in the central verge. Light snacks. Place to sit and relax and watch the world go by. Suitable for families and kids. Very safe.

This is the typical pedestrian street full of shops in the city center. It is nice to take a walk. Unfortunately, Almaty needs more street for pedestrians as it’s already full of cars.

Also known as Arbat Market, this place is a wonderful place to visit. Similar to city squares in other countries, Arbat is actually a stretch of pedestrian street between Nazarbayeva and Ablai Khan, filled with artists, entertainers, shops, and supermarket. It also houses the TSUM shopping mall nearby. Panfilov street, which is perpendicular to Zhybek Zholy is also part of Arbat .
Recently the area was rebuilt and it now looks much nicer with colourful fountains (at night) and playground for the kids. It is a very popular area for the locals to relax and bring their children to play around; quite safe as no cars are allowed in. You can sit by one of the cafes or kebab & ice cream shops, and enjoy people walking by.

In order to reach Almaty's Arbat, you may walk from the Green Bazaar along Zhibek Zholy street westwards passing also through the Silk Way Shopping Centre after some 500m. Before the October Revolution, this street was called Trading and it was the first street in the city to be cobbled in 1883. Later, it was named after M. Gorky (a writer). Nowadays it has become a vehicle-free area and its official name, Zhibek Zholy, which means Silk Way, often gives way to the local's preference to call this area Arbat. It is a place for artists to display their work. Coffee houses and shopping centres offering souvenirs are also available.

There were a couple stores that sold local crafts along this street. I dont remember the names but one was more of a small mall & all the craft stores we on the top floor, it was about midway along the street. Also at a far end was a side street that had many craft booths. Interesting ceramics ect. Not very expensive. Open air booths.

This street is not very interesting for a tourist, but it could be something to do in the evening. There are also some supermarkets.
