Very nice walk upto Kolsai lake 2. Don't forget to take your passport with you as there is a border patrol, due to the proximity of the Kyrgyzstan border.

I tend to agree with Jing H. We hired transport via Internet before arriving in Almaty and consequently ended up paying way too much for a very friendly driver who barely spoke English. We ordered a tour incl Kolsaï lakes.

Hi, Unfortunately I do not think there is an easy way to get there from Almaty by public transport. It is around a 5 hour drive from the city and the roads require a 4x4 vehicle.

We lived near there and had no problems! Avoid places with cattle and don't sit in long grass. You should be fine, I heard nothing about rock born encephalitis and barely saw ticks
