The lakes around Almaty are really beautiful. They're not terribly hard to get to, and it's worth it. Bring a picnic if the weather's not too cold, and be prepared take lots of photos!

A very nice lake for sightseeing. But you can not find any restaurants, cafes or even a toilet. Come here with your backpacks, have a trip and enjoy from the nature.

Unfortunately it was misty but still quite nice! Areas around the lake should be developed. Toilets were deplorable.

Very nice walk upto Kolsai lake 2. Don't forget to take your passport with you as there is a border patrol, due to the proximity of the Kyrgyzstan border.

I tend to agree with Jing H. We hired transport via Internet before arriving in Almaty and consequently ended up paying way too much for a very friendly driver who barely spoke English. We ordered a tour incl Kolsaï lakes.
