Kolsai lakes is a system of 3 interconnected lakes that are easily as beautiful as any lake you can find in Europe or other parts of the world. We rode to Kolsai lake 1 on motorcycles and hiked about a kilometer to lake 1. Then...More

We visited Kolsay Lakes 1 & 2 plus Kaindy as part of our 5 day tour of the Zhetisu/Almaty region with SUVtours (separately reviewed). Because the lakes are quite far from Almaty (close to 3.5-4 hours one way), it is better to stay 1 night,...More

That's a very beautiful lake. You can enjoy the view and have a picnic or enjoy the hiking trails around the lake (actually connecting kolsai I & II). Just take care if the trails are slippers (horses and raining clouds are usual there).

When we went the road was flooded which made the trip even more fun. We drove in a lifted van and at one point had to hop out and ride horses to the lake as apparently a drunk guy drove his Lata into a washed...More

Lake reopened after a landslide last week, we chose to ride a horse instead of going there by foot. Interesting experience in riding the horses from ticket office to the first lake, although my horse was a bit agitated, it takes ard 3 hours round...More

We went to Kolsai Lake right after the park re-opened after a land slight. Our driver dropped us off at the ticket office and from there it was an 8km hike towards the first lake. Although easy and relatively flat at first, the last 3...More

I only made it to the first lake but it was magical. Very quiet and it was snowing when we got there. I want to go back and hike up to the higher lakes.

I tend to agree with Jing H. We hired transport via Internet before arriving in Almaty and consequently ended up paying way too much for a very friendly driver who barely spoke English. We ordered a tour incl Kolsaï lakes.

Hi, Unfortunately I do not think there is an easy way to get there from Almaty by public transport. It is around a 5 hour drive from the city and the roads require a 4x4 vehicle.
