- Geórgenes MarcalBrazil1,558 contributionsA spot that defines a nationIf you come to Madagascar, doing this avenue is an absolute MUST. Getting there from Morondava is relatively easy. There’s a coffee shop nearby and souvenir stands. Take the time you want! Best spot: getting a bit further during the sunset and watch the sun coming down in between the trees.Visited January 2024Travelled soloWritten 5 January 2024
- Christian RAntsirabe, Madagascar45 contributionsBaobabs forest for sunset west of Kirindy !I just wanted to show you this place near Kirindy forest, two hours drive from Morondava. This is absolutely magic, and worth to visit, especially for sunset. Very quiet, and no other people. Perfect for honeymooners or couples.Visited June 2023Travelled with familyWritten 9 February 2024
- Thomas GAmsterdam, The Netherlands1,877 contributionsGreat viewsThis is the iconic view of the amazing baobab trees in Western Madagascar. It can be a bit crowded with tourists during sunset, but not annoying. I would recommend on coming here during the day when it is not crowded (for example when heading to Tsingy de Bemaraha or Kirindy Forest when you pass this sight) and during sunset with the best views. I also recommend walking the whole path first, which is around 250 meters) and then take place at the field next to the beginning for the best views. This is a great sight when in the west of Madagascar.Visited November 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 20 February 2024

There are vendors around selling wooden Baobabs, but they aren’t pushy. Not crazy packed with tourists then maybe a dozen or so around sunset. See the locals going about their day.Visited April 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 12 April 2024
- duhozBeroun, Czech Republic7,417 contributionsSunrise & sunsetI had a great time at the Avenue during my visit. I spent there sunrise and on the way back from Kirindy park also sunset. For me, the sunrise time was the best. More peaceful and relaxed experience as there were just few people. Apart of admiring the majestic Baobas, I could see the adjoining village and the local community. There is small souvenir shops and restaurant and late during the day also local community market. For sunset, it was a different story. More crowded as many people came by car or rickshaw. The Avenue is just a 20 KM or 30 min ride.Visited May 2024Travelled soloWritten 25 May 2024
- MumbaiRidersMumbai, India1,904 contributionsAvenue of BaobabsThe Avenue of the Baobabs, or Alley of the Baobabs, is a prominent group of Grandidier's baobabs (Adansonia grandidieri) lining the unpaved Road No.8 between Morondava and Belon'i Tsiribihina in the Menabe region of western Madagascar. Its striking landscape draws travelers from around the world, making it one of the most visited locations in the region. It has been a center of local conservation efforts, and was granted temporary protected status in July 2007 by the Ministry of Environment, Water and Forestry .This is a step toward making it Madagascar's first natural monument.I was the lone tourist at the odd hour of 1130 hrs as majority of tourists arrive in hordes to witness Sunrise and Sunset at the " Avenue of Baobabs".When visiting the "Avenue of Baobabs" also travel a bit further and visit the unique "Amoreux Baobab" tree.Visited September 2024Travelled soloWritten 28 September 2024

Absolutely beautiful destination, which is a must see. The sunrise and sunset (and the night time) is absolutely beautiful and makes some incredible photos. The road to get there is very bumpy, but it’s all part of the adventure. We hired a tuk-tuk driver to take us there and back from Morondava for 80,000 ariary. There is a restaurant just next to the avenue which serves really great food

The Avenue of the Baobabs is a stretch of road located between Morondava and the Kirindy Reserve surrounded by huge Baobabs. We were there at dawn and it was magnificent. It was October and we left Morondava at 4:45 to watch the sunrise there, definetely worth it. We had the place for ourselves. We wrote a blog about this amazing trip madagascarjourney.com.

The road condition is worse than I have heard or imagined. You have to be physically fit to sustain the bumpiness. However, if you are strong or courageous enough, I urge you to see it. If possible, you really should do it at sunset. It does add extra beauty to the Baobab trees. They stand there over hundreds of years and gave you an awe to them. While you are there, don't forget to go a little farther to see the Baobab-in-Love.

We have visited Avenue of the Baobabs with rented taxi. That’s good way to do that. When you make deal taxi is waiting on you for hour, two... as long time you need.
The feeling while walking among the giants is indescribable, especially since we were there during the off-season, so we were alone there.

Its a long drive, and you need a 4WD or a taxi (50.000Ar) from Morondava. You have to see it at sunrise or sunset. Between 200 and 1000 years old trees. Its really a great experience. Remenber spray for insects!! Important!! And your camera. Go cross the field and turn to the trees - this is the Best spot for sunset. Enjoy :)

Hi All !
Apologies for the late reply. I have been travelling with work, and currently in New Zealand for a break.
Ok, firstly I have been in and around Madagascar working for a client, because of this I have made some great contacts.
If you wish to visit the BaoBab valley you can contact a good local friend of mine. His name is Morgan. I will put his details below and contact him to let him know that visitors are interested in his service. Morgan does not work for a travel guide company, he is a local in which I used on a regular basis. Ask his price and mention that your a friend of mine (Mr James Kirby also known as KIRBS) If you email him, expect a reply in a day or so, this is due to the nature of the country etc. Morgan is a great guy, very funny and I recommend using him. I have informed him that people may contact him for his services.
Mr. Morgan. Tel: +261(0)340517334 / +261(0)333717334 Email: kakaponat @ gmail . com
Good luck and hope this helps!!!

Hello! Merci

It did get quite buggy as and after the sun went down. I do not recall as many in the morning when we returned for sunrise. Definitely bring bug repellent -- and enjoy! The trees are just spectacular!

I went with Adventure Associates from Australia. I cannot tell you how much costs to go to the Avenue, because I paid the whole 3 weeks tour as a package. Excellent operator, and you need local expertise very much.
