Unlike other black-sand beaches, this sand isn't volcanic in nature but rather is streaked black by run-off from a nearby hot spring.

It's sand and it's black!

The actual name of this beach is Pantai Pasir Hitam. There is a car park for cars and tourist buses. It is a beach used as mooring and docking place for fishing boats which means there are probably imersed anchors waiting to be stepped on. It is quite pathetic to see many people admiring this place and taking selfies when... More

This is a must visit place. It is a unique location as awesome to view. The folklore of the black sand is amazing but you will have to read that for yourself.

Came here as a passer by - nothing great about this area and you certainly can't bathe here. Beach is small and boring but at least I can say that I've seen it - a 5 minute quick stop and that's it. The sand wasn't exactly black but you can see there are black bits around it but nothing amazing

So so. Can skip unless you are black sand research specialist. Reach 4.30pm and don't see anyone playing/swimming in the sea

This location can easily be included on any tour of Langkawi's major features but it is not something to regret if you miss it. It is novel to see a beach of black sand but that is the end of its charm.

This place is good for nice short stroll if one is passing by. There is signage outlining the background of the black sand which made interesting reading. The food stalls at the beach looked sad and I would not recommend these unless one was really starving.

There is not much black in the sands, but enough to give its name. Better is the views from the sands of all the small islands towering out of the sea and the fishing boats at one end of the beach.

A beach with a bit of black sand of it, not too much beach, quite a thin strip of sand. When we visited rhecarea was deserted and very quiet. Not much else ther apart from the beach

The beach and sand is ok. Interesting to see traces of black sand. However the area and shops/eateries around it are not well-managed.
