About
Ipoh World (IpohWorld) is an education-based, not-for-profit organisation established in 2004 to promote awareness and appreciation of Perak, the Silver State of Malaysia and its unique, diverse and rich heritage, with particular focus on Ipoh and the Kinta Valley. In 2006 we ran our first public exhibition "The Story of Ipoh: From Feet to Flight", in cooperation with Darul Ridzuan Museum. Since then, supported by sponsorship, we have run several more exhibitions while continuing to seek further financial support for a permanent, lively and interesting heritage gallery for Ipoh, thus enhancing both education and tourism. This current project, our first permanent, museum quality exhibition is our first step to fulfilling this objective. Advance booking is recommended as space in the building is limited. You may book via our website by clicking on Exhibitions or by the QR Code on our brochure. It is quick and easy and you receive a booking confirmation by return.

Great little museum. The guide was very knowledgeable and made the tour interesting and fun. Highly recommend if you are in Ipoh and looking for somewhere to dodge the sun for an hour. Free tour but donations expected of 1MYR/person

    Insightful!
Our guide is extremely knowledgeable! I was pleasantly surprised as I didn't expect to learn so much about the history of Hakka people through the exhibits. Lots of money and effort were invested to restore the building and do up the entire place. Entry is free, a token of appreciation will go to the NPO that maintains and runs the museum! Note: Museum is only open for guided tours and not open for walk ins, hence do make an appointment prior!
Dear Lolla la Nonna, thank you for your review on Tripadvisor. We are glad you had an insightful visit at Han Chin Pet Soo. Hope to see you again some time in the future.

Brilliant insight into life for Chinese and local tin miners when Ipoh became the world’s boom town.
Superb guide brought to life the story of the 19 yr old Chinese emigre who became a tin tycoon as Ipoh attracted thousands of Hakka Chinese. Also tells the story of the Hakka (“the Jews of China”) and how men & women survived through hard determination and ingenuity. Artifacts, original items and recreations show how this “gentlemen’s club” for Chinese mining businessmen became a leading centre of Ipoh at the dawn of the 20th century, pioneering electricity, gambling, and fine dining (Hakka style).
Dear Kevan K, thank you for your review on Tripadvisor. We are delighted you had a brilliant insight of the story shared at Han Chin Pet Soo. Hope you enjoyed your stay in Ipoh too.

    Fascinating Hakka Towkays in Ipoh
Very informative guided tour of this Hakka museum. Learned tons about the tin mining history of Ipoh and the various Hakka customs that make this ethnic group so special. Glad we managed to secure a booking to the tour. The guide himself presented everything so clearly and made the whole experience very entertaining. Highly recommended.

A visit to Han Chin Pet Soo was such an enjoyable visit. The team has done a great work in bringing this century-old building back to life and restored it to its original condition. The guided tour was informative and there was never a dull moment learning about the history of Hakka miners back in their glory days.

Probably the best and most intimate museum in Malaysia!
The museum is located in the old town area of Ipoh. Although it is open to the public, visitors are required to make online reservations in advance as there are limited sessions available each day. Each guided tour session lasts for one hour, and once the session begins, the doors are closed to prevent other visitors from entering. The guides provide articulate and detailed explanations about the history of Ipoh, starting from the migration of the Hakka people to the tin mining era and the dark times of Ipoh's past. The museum consists of three floors with some slightly steep staircases, which might be a bit challenging for elderly visitors. Nevertheless, it is one of the best museums I have ever visited in Malaysia. Even though admission is free, they accept voluntary donations.
Dear moronnic, thank you for your review on Tripadvisor. We are delighted that you quoted Han Chin Pet Soo 'one of the best museums'. Hope to see you again in the future.

The tour is a must-go activity for Ipoh visitors! I gained insights on the early history of Ipoh and the kind of life that workers at Tin mines led, very significant history. The guide was knowledgeable and the artefacts gave a good picture of what life was like. Excellent!

There's a guide that will tell you the story behind the Hakka immigrants that help build Ipoh. You just need to book in advance. They accept donation (instead of telling to buy ticket) and I think it's worth it because it's such an interesting museum.

HCPS stands out amidst numerous historical gems in the Old Town of Ipoh. The story of the museum is very unique, but it has also been beautifully restored back to its former glory, and feels like you're being transported back in time through the brilliant storytelling of the museum guide. It is incredible to me that this is a free experience (donations encouraged and pre-booked required) and I would say it is an unmissable stop if you're in Ipoh.

A lot of interesting facts about Hakkou tin history in Ipon. We were so surprised by the fact that one tin prospector's daily salary was 1 dollar, which could buy 100 meals under the price level back then! Totally beyond my husband and I's expectation. If you would like to hear more stories about Hakkou tin history, you definitely should make a reservation and visit!
