Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Vibrant part of the town that is well worth a visit. Lots of places to eat and shop. Some of the shops require you to take shoes off before entry. There are some jewellery shops which sell bangles at amazing prices. Be careful some of the streets have no pavements and there is a lot of traffic

We entered along Queen Street and stopped by the temple first. Really good to see and a bustling area. There are some really lovely food stalls, especially the samosa stand, half way along the street.

No China product there. So all TripAdvisor followers better go there and give your reviews by your experience. I was read so many fake news here ....

My husband and I got ourselves a set of Punjabi suit here at reasonable price. Alteration service is provided. This is also a good place to find matching accessories or sandals for the saree or punjabi suit which you have bought. We saw the shop owners and hawker stall workers who kept the streets clean by washing the streets.

Little India is a compact area, in Central Penang, which highlights one of its essential characteristics-- the long standing Indian Heritage! It is 100% "Indian" with the "Bollywood Music" blaring from shoppes selling music and "stuff". There are many great food stalls making wonderful Indian appetisers and main dishes (both Halal and vegetarian). There are also wonderful restaurants specialising in "their version" of India's Regional cuisines (my favourites--- especially when its hot and humid during the day). There also many shoppes selling "vegetables, spices, and groceries" which are frequented mainly by locals (including the Malays, "expats" and Indians). Its very well worth a "memorable visit"-- during the day or evening.

Little India was a brief walk from our hotel in George Town, so we figured we'd check it out and grab dinner there. There are many food stands and restaurants selling very cheap, authentic Indian food. We tried quite a few things and the chicken briyani was probably our favorite. We enjoyed exploring so much that we came back the following evening. Definitely an awesome part of town for some affordable, great food and shopping around.

We actually ventured here to early in the day for true atmosphere but it was apparent what a bustling place it could be. Hot, humid weather means you have to be determined to enjoy this place to get the best out of your trip. Set in the older part of town there are many interesting places to see, temples, mosques old houses etc. we walked for miles it seemed but really it is quite compact. Definitely worth a visit.

If you have been to India and loved it, you will love it here. It’s like being in the heart of India minus the bad smells, minus the beggars, minus the dirt and the dust, minus the mangy flee-ridden half starved dogs, minus the searing heat (sometimes), and unfortunately minus the street cows.
If you have never been to India and have the opportunity to visit this section of Georgetown, don’t miss it, it is divine. You will find Hindu temples, flower stalls, Indian budjans blaring over loud speakers in the streets, and stores selling all manner of products from the mother country; incense, wigs, saris, jewellery, milk sweets, idols of the Hindu Gods etc.
I have been to visit little India several times, but my preference is in the evening, when it is cooler (please see my photos). A good vegetarian meal can be had for a few ringgits at Woodlands restaurant in Lebuh Penang (see my review), or for meat meal go over the road to Sri Ananda Bhawan (see my review). It’s a bit more expensive because it’s meat, but prices here are still very reasonable. Also over the road you will find Mr Sweets, where you can sample the many varieties of traditional Indian sweets and deserts.
Little India is probably the cheapest place in Penang to buy gold jewellery, currently discounted because of the low spot price. It sells by weight, and at this time the going rate is RM141 per gram. The gold sold here is bright yellow in colour, and is generally 24 carat.

I have been here several times. This is a typical indian kind of a place where you see majority people are malaysians of indian ethnicity. Its an area that has a lot of shops selling things mainly imported from india, from clothing, gold jewelry, indian food, groceries to musics. There are ample of shops selling indian clothing such as saree and kurta which is imported from india and is sold in a reasonable price. However you can always bargain for a cheaper price. There are also a lot of restaurants (including budget meals and fine dining) that serve indian style food. They are open for breakfast right up to dinner. However check for its cleanliness before having your meal as there as some restaurants which compromise in this. No problem for vegetarians. You can have a wonderful choice of vegetarian meal, all typical indian style. Many restaurants here get their cook and spices from India to maintain its authenticity.
Shops here close by 10pm. And the area becomes very quiet and unsafe after that.
Safety issues: This place is generally safe during day and night while the shops are open. Shop owners are mostly friendly. However always beware of pick pockets. You will be walking through narrow lanes which is also shared by cars and motorcycles. So be careful, you may get knocked easily by a passing by vehicle. (Malaysian drivers are not kind to pedestrian, and they may be rude and careless most of the time).
Negative points: This place can be very crowded especially during office hours. Music shops may blast their music to the road, which can be very deafening and annoying. Cleanliness is average. Not many parking bays for your car. You have to hunt for a parking. Not disabled friendly.
