About
What better way to learn how to make Malaysian food with Nazlina, who wrote a comprehensive book on laksa in Malaysia! We start the class with a wet market tour following by a hands-on cooking class. 8.00 am to 1 pm. RM280 per person with a market tour. (via PayPal or WISE transfer through DuitNow or to my email address) This is the 14th year the class is operating. Please book at least a week ahead to confirm your spots. The classes are held on Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. If you wish to book on other days, please enquire ahead for the possibility. Prepayment is compulsory because people who book at the very last minute also tend to cancel. It is hard for us to plan for the logistics when this happens. Your co-operation is much appreciated. Join us for fun, and educational immersion of Penang street food scene and local cultures. Bring your positive energy and enthusiasm to learn with me, and I will return them a thousandfold! See you guys soon!

- Vanessa B2 contributionsCooking with NazlinaNazlina shared her culinary skills and enthusiasm in our cookery lesson. We learnt so much walking through the markets and sampling food I would never have normally tried without Nazlina's guidance. The cooking course was fun and informative especially learning the skills of roti making! So glad I bought your Laksa cookbook. It is invaluable. - rabbitingonManchester, United Kingdom123 contributionsNazlina has relocated . Find her she is amazing. Our family went to the market then with some of the purchases we made Beef Redang, tomato rice and the most amazing fresh salad . We learned so much at the stalls and loved the curry puffs as we strolled around with her. Then back to her new house. She’s only been there a few months but no doubt with continue her awards . Hall of fame before the pandemic. We chopped, cooked then ground and pounded so many ingredients . It was lovely to all cook together in The outside kitchen as a family. We really appreciated the hours that go into some Malaysian dishes. It was a lot of work for us (5). Nazlina not only had to close her spice school but has relocated and having to start again on growing her own ingredients . There are so many articles awards and even a book, She has been invited across the world the world and no wonder she is an experience not to miss!Visited April 2023Travelled with familyWritten 8 April 2023

- Vicky C1 contributionA must in Penang! We had a wonderful time and it was a pleasure to learn from Nazlina. We started with a tour of the fish market then had a traditional breakfast. After that we moved onto the lively Chowrasta market where we had the opportunity to try some local treats. Along the way Nazlina shared interesting stories about the history and the food of George Town which gave us a wonderful insight into the island. The cooking class itself was a delight and the food we made was utterly delicious. Nazlina is very jolly and a lovely lady. Taking her class was a day we will remember.Visited May 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 14 May 2023
- Pru S1 contributionEat, drink and cook like a local in George TownNazlina’s walking food tour and cooking class is an excellent way to experience shopping, cooking, and eating like a local in George Town, Penang. We were a group of 4 which is a perfect size for walking and eating, and experiencing all the markets. Nazlina is very knowledgeable about all the foods we ate, as well as the herbs, spices and ingredients we bought to make the most amazing rendang, sambal and nasi lemak from scratch! She provides wonderful anecdotes and stories to give an understanding of the local and historical context of George Town. Thoroughly recommend this authentic experience! Thanks for a great morning, Nazlina.Visited May 2023Written 21 May 2023
- hannarijk01Leiden, The Netherlands1 contributionAmazing cooking class!!This day was fantastic! We learned so much about all the local spices, veggies and meats/fishes on Batu Lanchang Market. After that we went to Nazlinas beautiful garden to prepare the meals. We learned how to make everything from scratch (like curry pastes and broths), nothing store-bought. Especially the Asam Laksa that we made was amazing. Besides that, Nazlina is such a nice and funny person. 10/10 would def recommend!!Visited July 2023Written 30 July 2023

- Katheline_visande7 contributionsBeauitful Day with NazlinaBest cooking class in Penang! We walked through the markets, had the best dosa, fresh fruits doughnut & kopi for breakfast. We made delicious beef rendang, nasi lemuni with sambal, nasi lemak, and four angle beans salad. We learned how to cook with Ginger Flower - something I've never heard of before! Apart from sharpening my cooking skills, I learned so many different things that are uniquely from Malaysia & Penang. I was even inspired to take my cooking skills further after consulting with Nazlina and hearing her story. She is an absolutely inspiration as a woman enterperuner. Definitely a unique experience in Penang...I highly recommend!Visited August 2023Written 12 August 2023

The best food we had in Penang was cooked by us! You will not be disappointed in this class. We started the class with Roti Canai and coffee and then a tour of several markets. The cooking class was so educational and the meal was delicious. We made Roti Canai, Beef Rengdang, Sambal and Chicken Laksa. Highly recommend!

We had a great day. It was fun and informative. We saw spices and ingredients in the market plus watched dough being made for roti. The market tour itself was the best we have ever been on. We received so much amazing information in a very informal but well structured setting. The classes are now done in a covered outdoor space which allows for a great cooking experience.
Nazlina is very personable and knowledgeable. You can tell by the way she teaches
that she has a lifetime of experience. We enjoyed the class so much that we signed up for a second class.
Most of all you get to eat what you have cooked. The food was delicious.

Nazlina led a tour of Chow Rasta market and taught our group of 31 pax from the USA how to make beef rendang, fish noodle soup, and four angled bean kerabu. Every dish was incredible thanks to her ability to teach us how to season them perfectly. Our students, who had tried rendang in multiple places, agreed that hers was the best. The kerabu was the most delicious I’ve ever encountered. We also love that we could grind the spices and peppers and brown the coconut by hand. A very informative and fun experience.

100% recommend the market tour and cooking class! We enjoyed the market tour and learning about all the different spices and ingredients. Then did some urban foraging, and then had some tasty breakfast near the market. And then went to Nazlina house where she has a very professional outdoor kitchen that was a very peaceful place to learn, cook, and eat. In all, the experience lasted about 7 hours and we left feeling very happy, full, and having learnt a lot.

Nazlina's market tour and cooking class was excellent. My daughter and I found her most informative and entertaining. During the market tour we learned so much about Malay and chinese traditions, food and recommendations on places to eat. It also included a delicious breakfast and a tasty street food treat. The cooking class was also brilliant. We cooked three delicious dishes at her home. We both thoroughly enjoyed it. Nazlina kindly emailed recipies for all the dishes we cooked and a few more. A wonderful way to get to know Malay food and culture. Great value for money in my opinion.

We thoroughly enjoyed our cooking class with Nazlina! She took as on a tour of a local market, and then back to her home to cook in her garden. We are both vegetarian, and she was very accomodating with ensuring that we had veggie options for all of the dishes that we were cooking. She guided us clearly through all of the dishes, and helped us learn more about Malaysian cuisine and culture in Penang. The food that we cooked was absolutely delicious and the whole experience was one of the highlights of our trip!

Excellent.
The market visit was very nice and interesting. Nazlina made us see lots of new things that I did not know.
The cooking lesson itself was amazing. The very best beef rendang that I have ever eaten.
Thanks a lot to Nazlina and her very good spirit.

An excellent way to learn about Malaysian cuisine and hands on experience of cooking some dishes. We started off with a tour of a wet market where Nazlina was fantastic in explaining not only the ingredients being purchased for our meal but also taking time to point out various fruit, vegetables and fish. We then went to her house where several cooking stations were set up undercover in her garden. Following her explanations and demonstrations, everyone could prepare the spices and cook the food. Finally, the group went into her dining room where we all enjoyed the food; beef rendang, Nasi lemak with Sambal and four angle bean salad. To finish with a delicious meal after a complete cooking experience. Would highly recommend!

If you’re looking for an authentic, hands on and way above friendly experience look no further and book yourself a tour and a cooking class with Nazlina. I was expecting a short stop at the market but got a full fledged around a few blocks tour including descriptions of exotic fruit and vegetables and bits about history and culture of the Malaysian people.
Nazlina was a very knowledgeable tour guide, flexible and stopped at all the perfect spots as if knowing intuitively what her guests might be interested in. We brought all freshly bought groceries to her spacious outdoor kitchen and began cooking. She explained every step well and gave us instructions without being overbearing. We made a chicken and seafood curry laksa soup, traditional nasi lemak dish and steamed banana and sweet potatoes dumplings for dessert. Nothing I ate before (either at home or fancy restaurants) compared to the laksa soup. It was one of the most delicious dishes I’ve ever tasted and one of my proudest moments to make something so complex in flavors and looking amazing at the same time. We also received the recipies to replicate at home - which with a few substitutions can be easily followed.
Nazlina really goes above and beyond - including ordering a grab taxi for me to get home and sharing a few videos on sustainable farming and biodiversity conservation. Highly recommend!
