Visited the Penang hill and got to ride on the funicular Swiss train- it’s really Steep both up and down!

Penang hill offers great views of the island and I hear that sunrise and sunset are popular times. Do set aside at least half a day to explore the hill at a leisurely pace. Temperatures are cooler since you’re way up which offers comfort while you’re trekking around. Do check the weather forecast as well given that if it’s rainy or cloudy- you won’t get much of a view while up there

Visit during Hari Raya holiday. I queued for 2+ hours just to get up to the hill by the train. The scenery is OK but not many activities up there. Not advisable to bring elderly along due to the extremely long queue plus no chairs are provided. SOP is not adhered during the queue and in the train. The train is pack of people like sandwich.

Purchase tickets and ride up a short train to steep climb the hill, each train interval about 30mins, only few mins to reach the top of hill (approx 700 meter above sea level) and temperature around 27 deg subject to weather condition.
Plenty of foods available at food court there with nice view. slowly walk around with some mini attractions that good to take photos. You can choose to take a buggy ride RM30 per car can fit up to 5-6 pax which bring to some attractions in the easy way or if you want can take a slow walk which take probably 30 mins to 1 hr.
Natural and relax, some even come up just to enjoy foods and then go down. Of course avoid peak season.
If you are tourist but want to experience Penang Hill, plan for about 3 hours here.
Anyway highly recommended to visit.

Went up again for the second time. This time we got a clearer view from the first one that it was a bit misty. Nothing much but we spent hours at the top haha. So, I guess we enjoyed it. We went there on public holidays in the evening so the normal lane queue would take about 2 hours+ so you know what to do. xD

This new funicular railway is an eyesore to Penang hill. The old was airy, slower in speed so that one can enjoy the scenery & the ride and open.
This new train is closed as they use air conditioning inside, faster to reach hill top, so that you can't enjoy the scenery and the ride fully and boring.
They should restore the old train!

Went there after the lockdown has been lifted. On weekdays, still crowded but with less volume compare to weekend time. The ticket purchase have 2 option, normal lane and fast lane. Waiting for your train could take time and will be call to board by trip number. Train experience nice, after reach the upper station there are few attraction places but we just went for buggy ride and went to kopi hutan. For buggy ride there is queue near the earthquake typhoon booth, the queue could be long. Overall, satisfied.

Penang Hill is an overcrowded, long queueing nightmare. the ridiculous prices charged for just going up and down (rm80 for express lane) is cutthroat for a 5 minute ride. Despite covid still raging, there is absolutely no SOPs as I observed many were not wearing their masks properly. To go up the hill, one needs to queue 40 minutes and another 1 hour just to get down. The counter just keeps on selling tickets despite being informed that there are already too many people up in the hills and in the queue.it seems that the Penang government or whichever body is monitoring the islands' tourist spots are just interested in money. Really pathetic. No one should be subjected to such crowds and queueing just to want to enjoy nature. There should be a capping on visitors daily. I will NEVER visit Penang Hill again.

The visit was interesting to see the views over Georgetown and Butterworth, Avoid the run-down Belleview hotel as the restaurant was closed and would not even serve us a drink.

It's a cooling environment . Me and my gf was on our way back from Penang hill gallery when we were chased by a group of monkeys.

We kept walking away but the monkey kept chasing us.
Thankfully a staff from Penang hill saved us or we could have been injured.

Good service from the staff
