Come Home to Historic Splendour

'ONE OF 10 GREATEST MANSIONS IN THE WORLD' LONELY PLANET 2011

A Grand Mansion conceived and constructed by a Grand Man; an eminent edifice which History calls Home; a peerless representation of the Paradigm Chinese Courtyard House – the Cheong Fatt Tze “Blue” Mansion has been perfectly poised for over a century on firm foundations of architectural, cultural and historic superlatives.

Essentially an ‘heirloom with rooms’, today, the Mansion readily bequeaths its charms to visitors who are able to indulge in Exclusive Heritage Homestays; **Guided Tours; and Tailored Functions on its premises. Reputedly the favourite home of the “Last Mandarin and First Capitalist of China”, the Mansion is undoubtedly the favourite home of George Town.

Enjoyed the tour with a fun lady guide who battled with the ambient noise and gave us a great history of the house and the owner and his life There were fans inside but it was hot so consider that with young children.

After reading several comments in internet, Blu Mansion was at top place in my Penang list and went to there on first day. However it was closed. I went there again early next day and joined a guided tour to enjoy both mansion and history. It was a sad surprise for me. Tour guide was explained many things at entrance... More

We met up with our friends who had been to the Green Mansion and said it was wonderful and suggested we go to the Blue one. Well for 17 Ringets each (which is quite a bit in Malaysian money) we were very disappointed. We waited until 3.30pm to get in and there we were in the foyer for 35 minutes... More

I remember visiting this place almost 10 years ago and have most fond memories not only of the house, that is simply spectacular, but also the tour - the guide back then explained every detail of the structure in most interesting way. Not so this time, the current guide will keep you downstairs at the entrance for almost half an... More

This a beautiful mansion, but do not waste your time. There are only 3 tours a day. The tour was 45 minutes listening to a woman waffle on about the history. We could not hear her and half way through someone started mowing the lawn in the garden outside! We did not get to see much as we were sat... More

Given that this is marketed as a guided tour we had expected to see a lot more of the mansion, but you only get to see around two rooms downstairs and one room upstairs. This is compensated for by a very long and verbose explanation of the history of the house. I don't mind history lectures, but given that we... More

other than the building being blue, nothing much to see inside if you've been to the peranakan museum. also we were not allowed to see the sides of the mason where the true beauty of the mansion is because it was a hotel as well. not worth the money tbh.

A prominent role in the history of Penang. This beautifully maintained historic residence presents very well and is a must see to all tourists, especially if you are interested in the historical significance of Georgetown. If your are a vivid photographer, or just want to simply get that right snap, then this is the place to visit. The residence is... More

I rarely write about places that disappoint; I leave that to others. However on this occasion I will make an exception. Told by many that The Blue Mansion was a "must see" we made out way to "see". OK - so it is entry at certain times; I appreciate that and I was ready to come back later. But ...... More
