Come Home to Historic Splendour

'ONE OF 10 GREATEST MANSIONS IN THE WORLD' LONELY PLANET 2011

A Grand Mansion conceived and constructed by a Grand Man; an eminent edifice which History calls Home; a peerless representation of the Paradigm Chinese Courtyard House – the Cheong Fatt Tze “Blue” Mansion has been perfectly poised for over a century on firm foundations of architectural, cultural and historic superlatives.

Essentially an ‘heirloom with rooms’, today, the Mansion readily bequeaths its charms to visitors who are able to indulge in Exclusive Heritage Homestays; **Guided Tours; and Tailored Functions on its premises. Reputedly the favourite home of the “Last Mandarin and First Capitalist of China”, the Mansion is undoubtedly the favourite home of George Town.

We did the tour of the Blue Mansion, there are three tours daily, ours was at 3.30pm. The guide had a great knowledge of the history and ownership of the mansion and told its story in a witty and charming way. We thoroughly enjoyed this tour.

Beautiful mansion part of which is now a hotel and restaurant. Only part of building available for guided tour but tour guide very informative and makes the whole visit an enjoyable experience. Only open 3 set times in the day so recommend you check before your visit.

To me, it was the knowledgeable tour guide who explained the history of the mansion, the reasons behind the wooden carving and the layout of the house that made the visit memorable and worthwhile. It was because of that, that I could truly appreciate the mansion apart from it being a great picture taking tourist site.

The house is wonderful and we debated afterwards if it would be better to see it by booking the restaurant there (although the menu seemed to be predominantly western). But having to go young as a tour was incredibly frustrating and ultimately tedious. The group was really too large the guide could only just be heard and a lot of... More

The ticket would only allow you to visit part of the mansion which only consist of two rooms and an empty courtyard. One can simply admire the building facade and read about the history of the owner online without paying to go inside. Not worth it.

The guide, Bettie, was most entertaining in her tour. It's a pity that folks take off on their own and disturb those of us who are interested to hear the history of the mansion.

Very well restored historical Chinese Mansion with very well blended European design and art. Rich unique history and outstanding workmanship of the era. Some area are converted to accommodation which should give anyone that is interested in staying in a historical mansion a great place to stay in Penang. Definitely need to time your visit with the narrative tours about... More

Called itself the Blue mansion. Despite its reputation as one of the attraction of the island, this place is really boring. You only get to visit a very vacant courtyard and two rooms feature some simple wardrobe setup whole while listening to an half and hour narration from the guide. A very unattractive place compare to the other green colour... More

This is worth seeing for the history but there is not that much to it. I know, not much of a review, it's how I felt !

A beautifully restored house which is also a hotel and has a restaurant. There are 3 tours a day .We had a very good guide who took us around and told us all about the history of the house. A must if you are in Georgetown.
