- Soko37Budapest, Hungary12,853 contributionsRainy day in the parkIt took us around two hours to travel from Kota Kinabalu on rented motorbikes, good weather and low traffic on Saturday. It started to rain when we started first hike. Park is great for ordinary people who do not climb 🧗 highest peak. You can stay whole day, many trails, short and long ones, some restaurants available, well marked and labelled. It is for families with kids, teenagers, even older ones. I saw some people in sandals 🩴 or flip flops. This park is definitely for good hiking shoes, not even sneakers 👟. Pls take water and some fruits 🍇 for whole day, rain jacket 🧥 and jumper is great. Temperature could change quickly. When is great weather, you see mountains around, when raining 🌧️ you have just great hiking. Rainy days are making hiking trails slippery and muddy. Hiking to the top is extra story to be planned and studied ahead, this is not for spontaneous decision. Park has got accommodation and restaurant.Visited February 2024Travelled with familyWritten 9 February 2024

We rent the car and the driver himself brought visitors for hiking. Jai is an experience in hiking and expert in snake. Know the forest very well. If you need a guide can contact him at +60 14-353 1949.Visited March 2024Travelled with familyWritten 22 March 2024
- Sharan KKuala Ketil, Malaysia10 contributionsDo this first when visiting KundasangWe drove to the park on our last day at Kundasang, on our way back to Kota Kinabalu. Regretted not doing it earlier as the insights gained during our free guided tour would have inspired us to do more trails and treks and ensured that we scheduled time for Poring hot springs, the canopy walk and seeing the Rafflesia, which is all part of the Park experience but located an hour away (The whole Kinabalu reserve is slightly bigger than Singapore!). Anyway, the free guided tour of one of Silau-Silau trail by Sabah Parks guide Jeremy was fun and informative and is highly recommended. The insights shared by Jeremy will enrich your Kinabalu experience so be sure to do this first when visiting Kundasang.Visited April 2024Travelled with familyWritten 16 April 2024

Cool, calm, peaceful, serene and beautiful experience going through this national park. The sound of small insects and the river flowing is like music to our ears. There were many types of plants in the park. Our guide, Luq from Amazing Borneo is very knowledgeable explaining the many types of plants we saw. It was a very good experience for us since we learn new things about mother nature.

We are not fit to climb so we only done one trail there in the afternoon. We did not see anything on the hike (SilauSilau Trail) but we are very happy that we went to the botanical garden. We did the free tour at 3pm and we saw a lots of plants. The most expensive Orchidea there. Without the guide we will have missed it! Thanks again

We drove around the park road circuit first to check out the sights & the we parked at the entrance & did the shortest 650m Pandanus trail Ina clockwise manner.
It started with a treacherous climb up a steep slope, slippery at some parts for 15min, fortunately, the remaining 30min was easier walking and descend was nice & gentle.
I enjoyed hiking through the mossy forest to see the various plants in this primary (probably) forest.

This is the National Park at Mt Kinabalu and is a World Heritage Site. Inside the park is the Botanical Gardens. There is an entrance fee for both. There are a lot of hiking trails within the park. There is accommodation and a restaurant. We came here on a day trip from Kota Kinabalu, to visit the Botanic Gardens mainly. We were somewhat disappointed. There wasn't much to see - either the vegetation or the views, because of the poor weather. The meal in the restaurant was very ordinary.

Just before I got to Kinabalu Park (ie fairly close to Poring Hot Springs), I spotted a sign that there were Rafflesia flowers in bloom in a private area.
I had to pay to be taken there (30 ringgits) but it was so worth it.
There were 2 fresh blooms, close together & also some buds nearby that were next to bloom.
I was thrilled to see them as they are pretty rare.

Got a chance to view the Rafflesia Flower while on the way to Poring Hot Spring. And I fulfilled my bucket list. Although there is only one bloom, at least I had seen the real one. This is a private garden as such have to pay MYR30. It still value for money.

Hi! We booked a room in Kundasang town for one night with the intention to enjoy the place a bit with some exploration. We do not drive but would like to visit places of interest around the area, eg the Poring Hot Springs, the Canopy walkway, the trekking trails, the Botanic gardens, the Nabalu market etc. What transport options are available? Is it easy to get cab/grab for visits to such places in Kundasang? What are the prices
Written 7 March 2019
We did not take grab during our tour in kundasang, just a package tour from amazing borneo (transport included). Locals said there is grab service but limited as the places are quite far from each other. There is a public bus going around the area but i am not sure about the route, price and frequency. One option is Rent a car

I dont want to go hiking the kinabalu, I just want to go to a place where i can take pic with Mount Kinabalu background. Can u suggest a place for me?
Written 18 October 2018
U can drive or take taxi until the earthquake monument. From there you can snap pic and you’ll have mount Kinabalu on your back.

Do the guest bedrooms at Hill Lodge Sutera Sanctuary have kettles and hairdryers. Also is wifi available? Thank you.

Hello,
My boyfriend and I are travelling to KK in July. We are looking into staying at the park and doing some hikes (not up the summit). I found an agency that offers a stay in the park plus guided walks but I was wondering if a guide is necessary or if we're just as well off by ourselves. Love to hear your suggestions.

Hi! I managed get info from very few sites saying that there is a tour that starts at 11am in the park and another tour in the Botanical Garden that starts at 9am, 12pm and 3pm. Are these times accurate? Quite a few tour itineraries recommend reaching the park at 4:30PM and 'join a guided tour'. By that, do they mean the travel company's own guide or one of the park's?
Written 23 January 2017
Hi Sam.
The tours at Mount Kinabalu National Park are with Sabah Park professional guides.
Please check their website for more detail information.
Mount Kinabalu National Park are fabulous place to visit.
Have fun.

Which is better / efficient to go to kinabalu park from kota kinabalu town , by tour or by ourselves? Heard going back from park by ourselves would be tough as busses passing by the park is usually full of passengers and not possible to get on from the park.
Thank you someone for kind advice.
