Private Full Day Gomantong Cave and Kinabatangan River Cruise with Lunch

Visit Gomantong Cave and cruise the Kinabatangan River on a full-day tour from Sandakan that’s available as a private or shared excursion. Combining the two sites is a convenient way to explore two very different ecosystems on a single outing: go underground to see bats and bugs, then search for primates and birds on the banks of the Kinabatangan, pausing for an included lunch along the way.

We decided to book with Mr. Aji and loved the experience. I've traveled with many guides before (some really good ones too) but Aji is hands down the best. The sixth sense that other reviews mention is true, and his son is an excellent guide as well. Thanks, Mr. Aji! Hope to be back soon.

It was a wonderful peaceful time to visit with only a few other boats on the water. We booked a 3D2N trip with River Junkie who were wonderful and stayed at the Last Frontier Resort, all great! I recommend anyone wanting to visit the Kinabatangan River to do it now. The palm oil plantations are encroaching on the river and killing the home of all the animals so fast. The plantations were right up to the river edge in some places. On our hike along the ridge you can clearly see the very small amount of jungle left, it is heartbreaking. We could also here the constant notice of the chainsaws proving it it's literally being demolished one tree at a time, it will not be long before there is no jungle left in this area. It is a peaceful spot with wonderful river cruises currently.

We did a 2 nights trip with riverjunkies. Very well organized. I was there to see wildlife and we spotted crocodiles, orangutang with her baby and monkeys. The wildlife is fantastic. I didnt like the detail to see in our lodge when they let a fished fish die in the heat. The jungle strip that is left is sadly really narrow and short. Thanks to companies that produce Kinder, nutella, daim and other prepared food the jungle has desappeared. What made me also on bad mood was the plastic floating in the river. Why are the local people so ignorant and dirty with this? I dont think tourists go around and throw plastic in to the river. I dont think crocodiles need to search for food in plastic bags floating in the river. I think Malasia should educate people instead of building huge shopping malls and twin towers.

Mr. Aji is a pleasure to be around and I would pay money to just listen to him speak about the natural world, our place and responsibility in it, its inhabitants and their lives, and the thrill of knowing our surroundings... And to think I got to do that AND see the beauty of what inspires him on the Kinabatangan River. Mr. Aji is a genuine naturalist. He has an intimate knowledge of the characteristics of the wildlife, their habits, and their needs. He also has an incredible eye and imitative calls that helped me experience and witness the local wildlife in all its grandeur. His children were great supports and guides as well. Mr. Aji answered all of my questions, provided tours that proved his knowledge of the area and avoided the crowds of other tourists traveling in large groups. I was able to get up close and personal with many different animals, with the highlights being hundreds of monkeys crossing the river right above our heads and a mama orangutan and its baby just above us in a tree outside the Gomantong cave. He is full of beautiful and wise insights and is protector and preserver of our natural world. I suggest embarking on all the extra tours he offers such as the night hike and night cruise. The more time you spend out there with him the better experience you will have. I can’t say enough about the positive influence he has had on my life from being around him only a few days. Thank you Mr. Aji!!
