- Norma D1 contributionSapi Island pleasant day tripDisappointed with the corals. Mostly dead and brown. Surprisingly there were still nemos and other small fish around. Water visibility was okay in shallow water not in the deep. Low tide so much of area was roped off to protect what coral is left. The non swimmers with life jackets and croc shoes on still kicked the reef. Sad. Water temp was great and sandy beach with swings was a nice touch. Lifeguards on duty to control people out of unsafe areas. Showers and toilets with cafe for drinks and food. A pleasant day trip. Spoilt in Australia with our coral reefs which are alive and well.Visited October 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 14 October 2023
- Anonymous AGreater Sydney, Australia192 contributionsCould be so much betterA 2 island hopping trip - Sapi and Manukan costs RM $45 direct from the Jesselton ferry terminal. First stop was Sapi island. An extra RM25 per adult is paid on arrival foe the whole day for conservation. The speed boat took about 10 - 15 min. The ride was choppy. No safety ramps or assistance getting on or off board. Life jackets were not offered on the way back. Driver seemed to be competing with other drivers for speed. Would not be suitable for people with back pain or those with physical disabilities. Sapi island had 2 small Beaches to snorkel. However there were alot of dead coral and minimal marine life. Water was clear and warm. Still a nice place to relax and rewind despite many tourists. Unfortunately, we couldn't find a boat to take us in-between islands. Priority was to tour groups. No one was willing to assist us. We waited 1 hour for a speed boat and decided to forfeit the 2nd island in case we could not get back to the terminal. Very poorly organised, chaotic and unhelpful staff on the islands. Could be so much better for Malaysian tourism.Visited December 2023Travelled with familyWritten 25 December 2023
- tonimcallenFremantle, Australia55 contributionsA beautiful placeThis is such a beautiful place. The snorkelling was better than at Manukan Island in that there was a lot more coral and a wider variety of fish. It is a beautiful location, sitting in the shadow of the larger Gaya Island; both islands have rising hills of rain forest, making it feel exotic and a long way from the city even though it is a short boat ride.Visited April 2024Travelled with familyWritten 9 April 2024
- podsyBristol, United Kingdom78 contributionsPretty beach for relaxing and swimming.A pretty island with great beach. Soft white sand and turquoise water. Great for relaxing on the beach and going in the water. However not much to see when snorkeling as the now dead coral areas have all been roped off to protect them. There is better snorkeling at the moment on Mamutik island. Lots of tour companies stop at the island for buffet lunch but there is also a small cafe that serves very welcome cold drinks and basic meals. RM2 for hot water if you bring your own instant noodles, or you can also purchase at the cafe.Visited July 2024Travelled with familyWritten 28 July 2024

Great Place to visit with cost of 30 Ringgit inclusive of life jacket, snorkeling gear and boat transfer 2 ways.
Corals are nice but need to snorkel a little bit further you cant see any near the shore.
We snorkel and find lots of colorful fish, corals and a lots of Sea Urchin. Its huge and slightly scary.
Remember to sneak in some bread to attract fish to you or else slightly hard to find one.
View amazing. Restroom and prayer room are provided free use and you can rent a locker for safety or your belonging. You also can try zipline between island for 68 ringgit per pax.

The clarity of the water and the swimming area are as other people have said. I was excited and brought snorkels and fins, but I had no use for them.
Also, parasailing on this island is done in a boat with 5-6 groups of customers, and they take turns flying for about 10 minutes each from a point about 15 minutes away from the island. So, you end up wasting a lot of time traveling to and from the island and watching other people flying. Compared to parasailing I've experienced in other countries, the height, speed, and time were far from satisfying.
I think it's best to just relax and sway in the sea for 1-2 hours here.

We went to Sapi island after being to Manukan island 2 days in a raw. Sapi was a huge disappointment: Overcrowded and very restricted for snorkeling. They won't let nobody get to all the coral areas, apparenly to protect it from being damaged. To us, it doesn't make too much sense because people go there for snorkeling first of all. And we are wondering if snorkeling's the only harmful thing among all the activities done there? ( we maybe wrong and we know that all the tourists aren't respectful for the marine life but we were disappointed since we went there to see this marine life and not to take selfies on the beach or to be with dozens of people at 1m from the shore admiring one or 2 colorful fish).

Visited soon after Malaysia opened up and it was during fasting month, but the beach was empty. The sea was clear and warm with amazing snorkelling and the beach was very clean. We went with Beach Bums - you can just book a trip and hire snorkel mask etc from them in the booking hall in kk

We went with Star Marina and the Island is small but great snorkelling. We saw lots of amazing fish without having to go out to far. It took about 20 minutes in the boat from the Shangri-la hotel.
The island has cafes and toilet and shower facilities and was kept very clean.
There were a lot of people but you could snorkel quite easily. Beautiful island.

Sapi is very calm and beautiful. It's waves are calm and water crystal clear. I spent half a day there and was very happy. Compared to Manukan, Sapi was very clean and clear of rubbish and had less tourists. However, if you are a solo traveller it's about luck if you can get there. The boat operators had a hard time accepting me as I travelled solo because they would not get enough profit. I almost got stranded going back to KK. One can't just get into a boat at the timing you want. It's not like there's one or two general ferry operators and anyone can buy a ticket and just go. No. It's all different tour operators and their profits. I met the same guy when I went to Manukan, was nice to me because his boat was full of people. The next day I went to Sapi which was further (actually just another 5 minutes) I asked him who I should meet (a different operator) he was extremely rude to me and looked at me with vitriol and hate and said they'll come to you. I will not recommend KK islands to anyone honestly just because of the operators. The entire system was awful and greedy and add to pollution. Shame on Sabah.

It's very chaotic to get there but it's better than the other islands.
The water is warm, not so much rubbish everywhere but very small so you have to put up with spoiled Asian teenagers having their sort of fun next to you.
There are showers next to the toilets.
Get some water or a snack with you.

What are the activities i can do on sapi island? Including the fees please. I hope i can get answers ASAP
Written 10 September 2020
First you pay the boat fare then you have to pay entrance fee to the island.
You can snorkeling by yourself. My boat operator provide me with the goggles free of charge

Anazurah, camping and camp fires is allowed with the permission of Park Warden..this is confirm and hope it answers your question on the islands of Tengku Abdul Rahman Park
Written 29 August 2018
For camper, the park imposes a small Camping Fee of RM5 (≈US$1.50) for adult and RM2 (≈US$0.60) for child (below 18). Please be informed that you need to pay additional RM50 (≈US$15) to boat operator for next-day pickup. Camping tent (fit 4 people) is available for rent at RM30/day (≈US$9/day) on the island. The island shops close at 4pm, so you better take out your belonging from locker or buy your last-minute supply such as food before they close. You may also call the respective Island Tour management at Jesselton Point Ferry Terminal for further info on latest price. Their boat service can start as early as 7:30am in weekends, but the boat only moves after it’s full with passengers (about 10 to 12 people). If you go in big group, you can negotiate for discount. Their fares are the cheapest so most people use their boat service to visit islands off KK.
