Our tour to Mantanani Island for boat snorkeling started with a 7:15 am hotel pick-up in Kota Kinabalu. After picking up other guests and a brief comfort stop along the way, it was 10:20 am by the time we arrived at the jetty and boarded...More
The Mantanani islands are at a 40 minute trip in high speed boat (750 or 500 hp). On a regular boat it would take around 2h or more, I was told by my local guide.
The scenery is fantastic, the water are pristine and colour...More
I visited this very nice island with an organized 1-day tour. The sea is wondeful, and the white sand brings out its beauty. As always here it is crowded with turists. Snorkeling is the best part of this day, you can see many beautiful fishes...More
Whilst the majority of day trips seem to be to the nearby islands like Gaya, if you're looking for good diving and snorkeling I would highly recommend taking the time to travel out to the Mantanani Isalnds. The corals there are beautiful and it's the...More
If you want natural unspoil beauty, this is the island For you. Good for snorkeling and beach sunbathing. We went to this island from Kota Kinabalu and stayed there for a night. A lot of tourists also go for a day trip as well. But...More
Lots of dead coral. Staff stood on coral. Unfriendly staff with the exception of the guy who spoke Chinese. Only one snorkel opportunity due to late departure and NOT weather. Waste of a day. Wednesday 19th September 2018
Despite all the negative reviews I've read about this island, I decided to book a day tour to the island anyways to see it for myself. ( I booked it through amazingborneo) So, the island itself is pretty but to me it is not worth...More
Mantanani is the best island for snorkelling and diving while you visiting in Kota Kinabalu. It took 1:30 hours from the city to get Kota Belud jetty by car, and then will it took 40 minutes to get mantanani island by boat. A lot of...More
We took this day trip as it was mentioned in our hotel as an island to visit. Sadly, the trip did not meet our expectations. The island itself is beautiful but spoilt by rubbish in the beach even though there was someone trying to clean...More
This island is 100% focused on large groups of Chinese day-trippers that come to snorkel. Boats are packed and the two reefs that are being used by all resorts on the island are by now worn down from the mass-tourism. The websites say that there...More

If you find a hotel/hostel on Mantani Island to book, I think that they will help you arrange transport there as I did a day tour and we had people on the boat in the morning who were only going there to stay. We then had people who got on the boat on the way back who were returning from the island. As such, I would check with whichever place you book. In terms of there just being boats operating from the jetty simply to go to Manatani island, I didn't see anything like that. It seems to be all privately run boats, but again you can check with the hotels on the island as they may have a separate schedule. Good choice to stay there though, it's beautiful and very peaceful/relaxing! Enjoy!
