Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We started at Santubong where we caught the boat. We spent some time in the estuary where we spotted a rather large crocodile not far from where we caught the boat. We watched some Irrawaddy dolphins bobbing about around a fisherman hauling in his fishing net before heading out to Satang Island. Just before we got to Satang Island we paused at a small rocky outcrop where there were sea birds nesting then onto Satang Island. We snorkelled for a bit. Take long sleeved aquatic tops as my sunblock washed off and I got burned in the water and I kicked myself for not packing them. Also bring swim shoes as the sand on the beach is hot. After snorkelling we a picnic lunch under the shade of a large tree before seeing the turtle conservation area and talking to those who work there about the conservation programme. We were lucky enough to meet one little turtle that had just hatched hours before.

Magnificent marine turtles are threatened species the world over. It was to serve these wonderful sea-going creatures that Sarawak created its first marine area National Park at Talang Satang. This group of four islands has the largest concentration in Sarawak of nesting green and hawk-bill turtles, both endangered species. The island are also the breeding, nursery and feeding grounds for thousands of other marine species
Though its primary purpose is conservation, like all the other National Parks, Satang Island also encourages nature tourism, However, because of the sensitive nature of marine turtles and the small area of its four islands, visitors are only allowed to visit Satang Island on Day trip basis. Water recreation activities are permitted at designated areas.

We started our boat trip to the island from a marina on the Santubong River where first we went spotting crocodiles and then on in search of dolphins. Having spotted and watch a few dolphins in the river we headed off to Satang Island. Due to the burning in Sumatra we were almost upon the island before it could be seen. First we were able to go snorkelling in the shallow clear waters and then we headed to the island for lunch. Our boat moored just off of a golden sandy beach and we picnicked under some trees on the edge of the beach. At certain times of the year turtles come ashore to the island to lay their eggs hence why the island is a designated national park, but on our visit it was not the season for the turtles.

Taking a boat ride crosses the mouth of the Santubong River in search of the rare Irrawaddy Dolphin. The Irrawaddy Dolphin or snubfin dolphin inhabits river, estuaries and shallow coastal areas. The Santubong area is one of the best places in Sarawak to view this unusual looking marine mammal. The dolphins are often seen swimming and diving around small fishing boats in the estuary. Occasionally they are seen playing in the open water. Visitors will need a keen eye to spot the dolphins at first but after a short wait they can often be seen surfacing all around the boat
After exploring the Santubong estuaries for the wildlife, we continue our trip to Satang Island. It is one of the sanctuaries set aside by the Sarawak Government for the turtles conservation program. Snokerling nearby the island can be fun and in the evening watching the turtles landing. For the tour, you can contact the local tour operator that conduct the overnight trip. Borneo Interland Travel Service is one of the few tour operator that this tour.

We visited for an overnight trip, and it was amazing. The views, the home cooked meals, the snorkeling, and the turtles! If you're lucky, you might see some late at night, and it's definitely worth staying overnight to try it.

After sailing on the Santubong River where we saw from afar 2 crocodiles and a dolphin we arrived on Satang Island. There's nothing to do about it because we can't go everywhere. A common lodge, 2 buildings for rangers and a nursery. The visit is therefore quickly made. When it comes to snorkelling, the sea is too stormy. Well, well after the picnic, back to Check-out. Bre a day without much interest
