- Elle CeeeAustralia20 contributionsSpectacular SerapiWe headed out to Kubah NP to hike Gunung (Mt) Serapi. We had to hire a taxi as grab drivers don’t like going there or waiting for you to finish. The entry fee was RM$20 which is fairly reparable for a paved 10km trip. The jungle was beautiful, and it wasn’t actually that hot as you are in the shade for almost all of the hike. It didn’t rain when we were out there, but I can imagine the concrete becomes slippery when wet. We saw many many butterflies, and the jungle felt alive and fresh. I highly recommend this hike. It took us 1hr & 20mins to reach the top and 50mins to come back down. The tax driver charged us RM$170 - but securing a trip home was important, so we just paid the $$!Visited April 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 16 April 2024

There are apparently 4 trails to choose from so you might wanna plan your time wisely if you'd like to get the full experience. I barely saw any wildlife other than a few types of lizards and snakes but maybe I wasn't looking in the right place. Might come back in the future to try the other trails. "Life is like a mountain. - mel7155Singapore, Singapore1,344 contributionsGood place to visit either during wet or dry weather . Decent facilitiesWe hiked in this mountain as an alternative as the park to climb mount Santubong was closed without notice. So we were in our hiking outfit without any mountain to climb . As such, asked our driver to drop us off at this mountain to hike up the metal road for 5.4km . It is 30minutes away from Kuching or Mount Santubung so make sure to arrange for transport there and return transport as it is very difficult to get a ride hail there . Entrance fee is US$4 per foreign person and US$2 for locals . You need to register , log in and log out at the park office . Thereafter hike up 700m to the near peak on a steep mountain road that never seem to flatten . The views from the top is nice and there are benches and covered pavilion to rest enroute . The waterfall route and jungle route is disable if they did not close it off . Otherwise a very good place to workout and hike . Good for a 4 hour hike . It is not Mount santubung, but a little safer to hike in a rainy day which is very common in this area where it rains literally everyday around the year . The only difference is how intense the rain is that they shut the mountains from climbers - especially Mount Sabtubung .Visited June 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 1 July 2024

The nationalpark offers nice trails, which are very good signaled and clean. For the entrance you pay 20rm and you have to sign in and out at the headquarter. The staff at the headquarter is very friendly and helpful, they explain you the trails. They show you a good map (with the trails and emergency callnumbers) of which you can take a picture

I went on a night time frog spotting tour with Lucien (Sarawak private Tours and cooking class at Indah House). Lucien was extremely knowledgeable, and amazing at spotting frogs. We saw 9 different kinds. Walking in the forest after dark was a wonderful experience. I would highly recommend doing it.

Travelled from Kuching via K21 bus (4 ringgit each way), the bus drops you a couple of hundred metres from the gate, 20 ringgit entry fee (for non Malaysian adults). The park staff were very helpful with choice of trail for our time frame.
We then had a very peaceful walk to the waterfall, along well marked and maintained trails. Waterfall was beautiful and has some shallow pools you may dip your feet in. Highly recommend this walk. It will take 1-1.5 hours to walk to the waterfall from Park HQ.
We then joined the Selang trail which goes through the jungle and takes you to an excellent viewing platform - don't miss it- it is up a 90 degree ladder (5 steps).
Remember to take sensible walking shoes and food and drink (there isn't a shop there, the only thing for sale is mineral water).
Had a lovely day, definitely do if in Kuching- closer than any other national park to the city!

I was in Kuching for only 3 nites, so, I really don't have that much time except for sightseeing around town and some shopping, but since I'm there, I decided to go for a nice day trip in one of Kuching's many national parks and decided on Kubah National Park. To me the main attraction of Kubah National Park was its waterfall. Took about 15 to 20 minutes to reach the national park from Kuching and chartered a van for return transport costing RM60. At that time it was only me and my brother in the van, so we had the van all to ourselves, but it would be cheaper if only we have 8 more people to share the transport cost with except the waiting part will cost us precious time of trekking. Once at the park headquarter, the park ranger gave us a list of trails and we paid MYR10.00 each person as park entrance fee. Went for the waterfall trail and its about 2000m walk one-way of which the park office headquarter was the starting point. Once I've reached the waterfall, heavy rain already started..swimming or dipping was just a bit difficult..However, i like the trail leading towards the waterfall, its a nice trek.. Waterfall is nice too..may not be the best i've ever seen out there but because of its seclusion, the place itself is good for a quick getaway.. quiet too, and no one else was there besides the two of us.. completely surrounded by nature.. furthermore, for ease of trekking, the trail is easy to follow as now and then I could see trees had been colour coded. Since we didn't get to swim, we decided to head for the view point at Selang trail.. its like another 2000m walk from the waterfall, and once I'm at the summit or watch tower of Selang trail, the view of Santubong River was quite nice and since camera was not with me at that time, I ended up with using my cellphone's camera to capture the view...overall, i like it and it was a short and fun day trip.

We (being two females ages 30 & 55 years old) caught the public bus (N21 to the polytechnic) from Kuching to Kubah National Park, about a 40 min ride, drops you off at the bottom of the hill, short steep walk up to the entrance. Really friendly welcome by the warden who recommended the Waterfall trek however we decided to be a bit more adventurous and do the Selang Trail as we had been told the water levels were low at the waterfall. If you are happy with steep, and we mean steep walking, this is a very good trail with excellent variety of flora and fauna but don't forget you have to come down again! There are ropes to help you on the more difficult down bits and occasionally steps. The view from the viewing point at the top makes it all worthwhile though - we had our lunch here and a rest ready for the descent. Wear good boots as slippery in parts. We missed the last public bus but one of the wardens willingly drove us back to Kuching (RM40) rather than us having to call a taxi. A really enjoyable day out trekking and a good alternative (but without the wildlife) to Bako National Park.

I took the public bus service to Kubah National Park and had the best time in Kuching...
Made my way to the bus terminal in the morning to catch the K21 service.
To Kubah timing: 8am, 11am, 2pm, 4.30pm.
Back: 6.30m, 9.30am, 12.30pm, 3.30pm.
Bus timing is an estimate and buses do come and leave early.
My bus to Kubah left town at 10.50am and my return bus came at 3.10pm.
Fee is collected by the bus driver who double as a conductor and is 4RM each way.
You do not need to alight or drop off at a busstop...just tell the driver where you need to drop and he will do as told. The ride each way is about 45-60 minutes. Bus is comfortable and air conditioned.
The park itself is big and relaxing. I did not spot any wildlife but was preoccupied with all the plants. While i was there, it rained heavily but i continued my plans to track to the waterfall. It was a short walk and i did not see anybody at the place except for the entrance park warden.
I enjoyed the quiet and peaceful environment and had the whole place to myself! It takes about an hour to reach the waterfall and i had my lunch of packed meals/snacks there. After that, it was a quick track back to the main road to catch the K21 back to town. The bus came (early) just as i reached the main road and i managed to flagged it down about a hundred meters away from the bus stop! An hour or so later, i arrived back in town with fond memories of the great day out.

We were picked up by our local guide at 6am from Kuching's Lime Tree Hotel . My husband had booked and paid for the full day trip ( about 10 hrs ) only a few days earlier requesting a guide with good bird watching knowledge and we were not disappointed. On the outskirts of the Park we saw many different species as the sun was rising . The park itself is beautiful with a steep hill from which it seems there are several walking trails and also chalets that can be booked if you wish to stay. Our day was focused on looking for different birds , being driven to different areas of the park in search of birds with different habitats. My husband noted 55 new species of birds that day we had our binoculars and our guide carried a scope for some great views and audio recorded bird calls when on speaker to call in the birds which he had intensified were in the nearby trees . We also spotted squirrels including a chance to watch the giant squirrel munching on Rambutans as if they were corn cobs . The flying lizard was another highlight . We stopped for lunch with our guide in a local cafe for a simple rice based meal and extra drinks . Kubah would be a beautiful park to spend some time in but we had a great overview that day and there are plenty of birds and animals to be found. Special thanks to our guide who was very friendly and skilled .

We stayed there for 2 nights. The accommodation was very nice. We took a house that can accommodate 6 pax. Comes with kitchen with cooking equipment. Just bring your own food to cook. No microwave.
The night we arrived we went for frogging with one of the park ranger, Mr Zulkifli. We saw so many species. We even found bornean horned frog. Unfortunately we didn't get to see the 2nd smallest frog in the world. Mr Zul has a very good eyes, can easily spot and identify the species just from the reflection of frogs eyes! We also saw blue spider.
The next day we went trekking using the waterfall trail. We took 30mins extra than the estimated time (1hr) because we stopped a lot in the middle of trekking to observe birds and small mammals. Trail heading to waterfall is going down all the way except for the last few meters where you have to climb some stairs to the waterfall. So imagine going back 😂 it is actually an easy course but for an overweight person like me, it was very tiring. But I really love this park. The forest are so beautiful, trails are clearly marked and clean. The staffs were also friendly & helpful.
We didn't go with travel agent. So the here are the breakdown for the costs:
Accommodation for 6 pax - RM 225/night/house
Guide for frogging - RM 150/guide. 1 guide can bring up to 5 person. You need to inform the park few days earlier if you want to do frogging so that they can book a ranger for you.
Park entrance fee - RM 10 (locals); RM 20 (foreigners). This ticket can be used to enter Matang Wildlife Center ~ about 15 mins drive from Kubah NP.
As for transportation, we use our own car so we don't know the cost for taxi to go there.

Hello do you know if there is a bus from Kuching to Kubat national park? If there is one, where can I find the timetable?
Thank you so much

no bus but you can take grab or taxi go to kubah national park.

The distance is about 14 miles. So thats quite near. However getting there and back has better be planned as public transport to that location is limited. Suggest you hitch a ride back. There are many visitors and many of them are locals driving up there for a short day trek

Is there any bus we can use to visit Kubah NP? if yes what is the bus number and where is the station?
Written 8 May 2019
I booked a private walking tour for my Kubah National Park hike as the public transport options are fairly limited.
The Sarawak Tourism website on Kubah National Park states:
"Bus No.K21 [City Public Link]. Bus Station near Saujana car park. Bus Fare RM3.50 one way.Time: 8.00am, 11.00am, 2.00pm & 5.00pm (Check with the station for latest schedule).
Taxis can also be chartered for the 40 minute trip to the park."
You have to check at the station for the schedule as to when you can board the bus for the return journey. I couldn't find the return journey times online. As for taxis, I had read a number of forums and ascertained that, while it is easy to charter a taxi to go out to Kubah National Park, finding a taxi for the return journey isn't that easy. That's why I opted for the paid tour.
Hope this helps.

What's the latest check-in time for the hostel within Kubah National Park, and is there a way to get here from Buntal esplanade?

Can you do the night frog pond walk with a park ranger/guide hired from the main gate or do you have to go on an organised tour? Also is it too slippery in April to do carrying a 2 year old in a backpack?

Hey, i would suggest catching a uber using the app, Grab will be difficult because drivers are scarce in the area as it's pretty remote. There is a bus you can catch but i forget the number as we missed it, it stops running at 3pm!!! Also we didn't go to the park from the airport but arranged a car through our hotel. hope this helps? :/

Hi, if a guide is not needed for this park, is it safe for non-expect hiker ?

Yes it is quite safe. The man where you sign into the park was very helpful with information and maps.
