The souks and central medina are nothing fancy and average but the harbor is a most see since it looks like it did not change for 200 years, fish stalls with the bonties of the days catch, local fisherman reparing neets and ships and the harbor walls were the cannons that are still there were used to defend the city... I have visited the Medinas of Marrakech, El Jadida and Fez but the Medina of Essaouira stole my heart. It has all the charm of the other Medinas without the hustle or bustle. There is a wonderful small mosque, easily missed, but perfectly placed where you can offer prayers, both for men and women. The food options are plenty. The... More

This Medina is much smaller than Marrakech, it can be done in half a day and there is no pushy hard sell so the experience is nicer too. Lots of historical old city walls and great photo opportunities. People are really friendly, welcome tourists and you are likely to get a little lost in the streets, but all the little... More

Wander, get lost, find your way through secret passageways. Essaouira is a seaside city with a small yet enticing medina. It is manageable and what I mean by that is it is organized and clean but still possible to get lost in a good way. The main streets are wide and it is easy to navigate to where you might... More

It was built and designed by European architects so it looks organized and streets are wider. There is even a map before entering the medina to make it easier to the tourist.

Cosy and calm place. To climb on a tower is about 10 dirham per person and is absolutely a must. Don't forget to grab a glass of fresh orange juice - they have best ones in Morocco.
