We've visited the cafe several times, just north of town, and always enjoy the freshly roasted coffee, with some cake or pastry, in their outdoor cafe. There is an excellent selection of whole and ground coffee to buy, including blends.

We had a very informative tour today due to our FANTASTIC tour guide - Carlos! Traveling as a family with a young toddler, we weren't looking for the fully monty 3hr tour - so we negotiated for a shorter tour for $20/head with kids being free. Carlos had an excellent command of english and english humor too, regaling us with... More

We visited the Ruiz Coffee plantation for a morning. Very impressed with the guide who was funny, part of the family business, savvy about tourism, business, environmental management and anything to do with growing coffee. He speaks excellent English and Spanish. I loved the little boutique success story fighting off the big land grabs in the area. We then went... More

I went with a very large group so I didn't feel that this tour was very personal but I feel that in a small group it would have been different. The women who led the tour was very knowledgeable and the tasting at the end was wonderful.

We had the tour with Carlos the amazing guide! He is very professional and does a really great job with explaining the entire process in a fun way. This is a coffee shop with history as they are making greatly appreciated coffee for many years. We highly recommend this place, and yes. Ask for Carlos. :)

Carlos, our guide for the day, is a real smartass about coffee - but in the best way possible. Did every job there is in the long process of growing and selling coffee in his life, so his knowledge and anecdotes about the coffee plantation, the business and the lifestyle surrounding coffee is absolutely stunning. Such a humble person gives... More

I really loved this guided tour. The guide spoke excellent Spanish that I was able to understand (he also speaks English very well, but I was the only non-native Spanish speaker), and told as a lot about the history of coffee making and Bocas in general. He is also very nice, my amable. I'd recommend this tour to anybody, especially... More

We made the Coffee Tour with the guide Carlos. It was awesome!!! Carlos has a huge knowlegde about cultivation, preparation and everthing else about coffee even about things like distribution or cultural aspects. The way he tells you about coffee and guides you through the plantages never gets boring. His english is perfect! After the tour we tried different coffees... More

Ask for Carlos! He speaks great English for those that lack the Spanish skills. He is by far the best guide I have EVER had. He could do Stand-up comedy. This was by far the best tour i have done: I have done tons of wine, beer and booze tours. Blows away all the lame napa, sonoma tours. They picked... More

Cafe Ruiz' coffee plantation tour came highly recommended and it was well worth the time and money. I love coffee but knew very little about how it gets to my cup. Carlos, as other visitors have noted, is an excellent guide. He is funny while providing lots of information, and is fluent in English and Spanish, and speaks some other... More
