We paid a little extra to sit in the dome car of this train, and it was worth it. The train roughly follows the Canal route but there is lots of foliage by the side of the tracks and it's sometimes possible to see wildlife....More

We cruised through the Gutan Locks to the lake and tendered to shore. We then boarded a bus that took us to the outskirts of Panama City to catch the train back to Colon. The bus ride was interesting, but the train ride was fabulous....More

Booked as an excursion with MSC Divina. Began 6 hour trip from the poverty town of Colon on the Caribbean, with the coach going next to nowhere through the chaotic traffic of the town, allowing more time to observe the appalling squalor the inhabitants have...More

We were half way at the Panama Canal. We enjoyed but didn't really like the city of Colon. So many things to be improved there.

My visit began in the morning with departure from Panama City and a return by bus that afternoon. I'm not sure about the logistics of the return trip in the late afternoon unless you plan to spend the night in Panama City.

We took the train over to the Atlantic side and stayed at the Melia hotel. Very fun trip through the jungle and along Gatun Lake. Step outside on the platform between the cars. Very fun.

Don't book a tour because that's a ripoff. Do it yourself. Take the Metro from downtown to Albrook terminal, cost nothing. Then just go outside the terminal and take a cab to Station Corozal. Don't ask for the price. Just pretend you know it. Then...More

One way or round trip will take you to either the Pacific or Atlantic side of the canal. The train really runs on time, so be ready and buy your ticket early.
