Amazing trip, with boat first, then walking about 3km, and then go canoing to Lake Saldovan. Just relaxing to sit in the boat and the only noice you hear, is birds singing in the threes, and we saw monkeys also.

Such a magnificent, beautiful and gorgeous ox-bow lake; see Giant Otters and such incredible birds at close range. Go out at night and see the shining light from the many huge caiman. I have been here four times now and can't wait to return.

A long 3km walk on a muddy trail (with a partial walkway) to get to the lake. If you're used to seeing lakes, you won't be impressed, other than a visit from some otters and spotting a few caimans on the shoreline.
To reach Casa Sandoval you need to take a ride on a river for 30 min from Puerto Maldonado, walk 3km in a jungle and then 30 min peddle on the lake ( everything is done by the guides ) , but it worth it...More

Any option its fine, it depends on your choice of hotel and experience. Most hotels IN the rainforest offer the whole trip. We booked Wasai puerto Maldonado ecolodge (within city, just facing the jungle) first and then choose from a variety of tours. It was great, we always had a "normal place" to stay and rest it was quite cheaper than other options
