We went on the 3km walk to the lake and it was very very muddy. In some places 30 cm deep. It took some time but when we saw a lot of birds, bats etc. On the way back the rain was pouring down and everything was wet for some that did not bring really tough rain coats.

A full day tour to Lago Sandoval was the best and good enoughtrip thag me and my frinds did in Puerto Maldonado. Vegetarian Juanes were in the menu and we enjoyed the tranquility and the beauty of the trekking part, and the trip on boat over the lake. Amazing wild life, insects, trees, plants, etc.

Beautiful place, very quiet, no tourists, nice wildlife. A great place to unwind from Cusco and Machu Picchu. Bring your insect repellent and sunblock and enjoy the views and the tranquillity!

One of the best opportunities to see wildlife in the many parts of the Amazon that I've visited. We saw several types of monkeys, sea otters, woodpeckers, snake birds, lots of birds, caimon aligators, and I got to play with a baby howler monkey!

Do not miss this hidden jem! We saw monkeys, tons of birds, insects, fish, and even the "jungle guinea pigs".

The lake is well worth the trek, provides you have a good guide. Top tip: go very early in the morning so you can see more wildlife. You'll trek for about two hours, spend about two hours on the lake, maybe have a break at one of the locals houses (bring small change if you want drinks), and then row... More

We booked the 2 day, 1 night tour and that gave us a great taste of what the jungle has to offer. We spent the first day walking through the jungle and on the Madre de Dios River looking at animals. We luckily spotted turtles, giant river otters, and more! We woke up very early the next day to see... More

Booked a day trip for this excellent adventure. Our small group had a bilingual guide who explained the geography/topography of the lake, followed by showing us interesting plants & animals. hiking for 3kms in rubber boots seemed a dumb idea before we began but was actually excellent. a ride through a mangrove type corridor was fascinating & then the lake.... This unique Ecosystem deserves at least half a day visit including the 3 Kms walk from the Madre De Dios River leaving a minimum of two hours exploring the lake. The queen of the lake is the Otter, try to be there around 7:30 AM. We were able to see a family of 6 of them laying down at they... More
