Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

One of Trujillo's most beautiful buildings, the Santa Maria cathedral occupies the northern corner of the Plaza de Armas. Painted a prominent bright yellow, it is wonderfully floodlit at night and looks even better at Christmas. It was built in 1647. It has some rare altar pieces of St Peter and St John which gate back to the 17th Century.

This is such a beautiful place. Sitting quietly in the pews takes you back to many centuries ago. The architecture and detail are really stunning

...and you will be met with the most beautiful, vivid, colorful paintings on the ceilings...make note of the incredible doors that open and fold in unique ways ~ if you are in Trujillo, take a minute and walk in the doors. You will not regret it. (The Pope is visiting in October ~ perhaps it is particularly spiffed up for his visit...whatever it is...GO!)

Once you have visited the Basilica in Rome all other cathedrals suddenly appear less stunning. This is wha we felt unfortunately. But we do recommend you visit

Beautiful cathedral with 6-7 carved wood su altars and lots of interesting statuary and painting. One depicts St. Rose of Lima receding the sacrament of confirmation. Besutiful exterior. No one seems to give tours but it is a functioning church so be reverent. There is an interesting museum inside also

I believe it only keeps limited opening hours, so not surprised when we visited and it was shut.

The exterior is lovely in honey yellow tones and stands tall as a testament to Spanish conquest.

There are a lot of beautiful buildings around Plaza des Armas and the Cathedral is one of them.
The building is very coloured and in my opinion is more attractive from outside than inside.

This catedral is pretty generic. The paintings on the ceilings are of recent vintage and are not great works of art. It's OK to skip the visit.

I went there for 6 months the whole town is dirty and there is trash in the street and I saw some teens peeing in the street. A man came by and tried to rob me of my shoes, good thing I know kung fu. He ran in pain. And you know what , the cops right beside me let him go, they didn't do anything, just walked away. Every time I went some where to eat, they tried to charge me more than the real price of the food. It was like, here pay for the napkins and the use of the bathroom and some toilet paper cost too. The worse place I have ever been to.

All of the churches in this town ended up looking like Russian era concrete bunkers. It's like the church ran out of money before they could make their places in this town somewhat "inspiring". Oh well, you can't win them all.
