One of the optional tours on our recent trip to Russia was the Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow. I am so glad we chose to visit as it holds an incredible trove of Russian art gathered by Pavel Tretyakov in the 1800s. It has grown to over 170,000 works. Most of the art we'd seen to this point was not Russian... More

No reproduction can't convey the beauty and drama of the great paintings of seascapes. Aivazovsky's sea infinitely varied and equally well, in the fury of the tempest, in blissful peace. The organizers managed to satisfy the high demand, to minimize the queue including at the expense of constantly exhibited on the Museum's website e-tickets. I would like to see a... More

Art of 20th century in Russia was something pretty different then in the Rest of the world. This gallery Is insight in that parallel world Full of Chagalls and Kandinsky masterpieces.

We really wanted to visit this museum but everytime I tried to purchase a ticket online the website crashed. We turned up on our first morning in Moscow and there was a queue of at least 120 people snaking from the entrance, with more in the building. I went to the front and asked whether there was separate line to... More

This museum is incredible. It is Russian 20 th century art and the art is amazing. If you want to see European art then the Hermitage, main Tretyakov gallery, etc are fine. However, if you want to see Russian and Soviet 20 th century art, this is the place to go.

Just art of the 20th century, a lot of it run-of-the-mill Soviet art from the 30s on. But here is where you see Moscow's Malevitchs and his colleagues and competitors. Definitely worth a trip, but it is hard to get to without a taxi. There is a bus.

This is a fabulous collection of artworks by artists with whom we are totally unfamiliar in the West. We were stunned by the amazing work from artists we had never heard of. I was particularly taken with the numerous works depicting significant historical events. These were huge and dramatic.
