This is a newly rebuilt building but you can't imagine that since the very first minute you see it, is a huge place with two levels (don't forget to visit the basement) this place has some saint's relics and is a very important place for the local orthodox christians, it was a great experience to be there during the mass,... This Cathedral is still being used for services and hence photos are not allowed. It's also a main church used by the President, etc. Worth a. Visit to admire the interior.

I did not want to get off the bus and so glad that I did. It was breathtaking. I also realized this is still an active church with parents and children coming and going. I hope to visit again. The 45 minutes allowed by our American tour company was to short. We only spent a few minutes on the pedestrian... More

Modern, gaudy, isolated and remote in every way, including spiritually. This is a poor reminder of what was torn down by the establishment. Why bother?

Felt bad here, as a tourist, because this is still a very active church with plenty of worshippers coming, going and praying. Not hard to see why - it's very well cared for and the architecture is very impressive. Be sure to walk around the building to take in all the states/details along the exterior. We also enjoyed the view... More

My wife and I walked to Christ the Savior Cathedral from Red square. The dome is exquisite. This is a must see for anyone who only has 1-2 days in Moscow.

This impressive cathedral has been built in modern times, but is a masterpiece of Russian orthodox architecture. gold on the towers, gold inside. Listen tot the singers in side and the carillion outside.

Very impressive new building. A service was in progress when we entered which was amazing although we are not religious. Loos outside are 30 roubles. The only loo I paid to use in Moscow

Staying in Khamovniki

Neighbourhood Profile
Khamovniki
Khamovniki could be considered a city of its own – here it’s possible to find some of Moscow’s most important cultural institutions such as the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts, the Novodevichy Convent and Trubetskikh Estate, great sport locations such as Luzhniki stadium and aqua complex, and long and beautiful Luzhniki embankment. Pick your preferred form of transport to explore the area – bicycle or river cruise during the summer and taxi in winter as many of the great places are situated beyond a short walk.
