The area

Neighbourhood: Yakimanka
Yakimanka acts as Moscow’s evergreen lungs with prime beaches on the Moscow river. All the benefits of visiting and living in Yakimanka are gathered at the Moscow river embankment – three parks: Gorky, Muzeon and Neskuchny garden shape this green stripe with museums showing the hippest contemporary art. The area is full of activities for your eyes (museums), mouth (restaurants) and feet (sport and dance-wise). Access anywhere is easy, just hop on a river boat and continue your journey throughout the city.

a well laid out leisure and culture park
Aug 2019
A half day I had reserved for a visit of the Gorky Park, a name that made me think first of all of the movie of that name I had seen, based on a crime novel by Martin Cruz Smith. To get to the park I took the metro till the station Park Kultury, from where one crosses the Moskva river over the Crimean bridge, finding the entrance to the park just on the other side. A map there helps for orientation. On the way back I crossed the river by the Pushkinsky pedestrian bridge further south to get to the metro station Frunzeskaya.

Soon after entering through a tall cast iron gate and a walk through greenery I saw the grand former main entrance, where in the old days one had to buy a ticket to visit the park. It is a curved colonnade with an inscription that it dates from the year 1955. In fact the whole park is a creation of Soviet days, starting in 1928, but in the last years it has been completely redone.

There are flowerbeds, trees, fountains, sculptures, artificial lakes, some big enough to go for a ride with a pedalo, everywhere are stalls for food and drinks, also cafés and restaurants. It is a place for families with kids, for youngsters to go roller skating or play table tennis. Others can spend time in a covered open air cinema or visit the Garage Museum for Contemporary Art in a building by well known Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas.

Fabulous kids area
Feb 2020 • Family
Very cold this time of year, but still a lovely pleasant walk with the ice rink setup. The kids play area is brilliant though for both very small up to teenagers as there's a massive climbing frame that I may have just had to sample given that there was no-one else there (I'm 31 and the toddler son asked me what I was doing lol) a very fun few hours

wonderful
Aug 2019
such a large park in which you could spend hours sitting and wondering around! definitely didn't feel like a tourist there, heaps of locals were enjoying summer weather. Lots of things to do (bike hire, parks, amusement park, sport games) one of the nicest parks ive been to, extremely clean & green.

Wonderful place to visit and relax
Jul 2019
We were with a group and had about four hours to take our time walking around and taking in everything. It's huge, many great little pockets of different gardens, very family friendly and some lovely food options. Highly recommend it.

What a wonderfully joyful place

Beautifully maintained and laid out.

LOTS to do for all ages
Bikes, scooters, 4 wheel bikes etc etc for hire (though some were somewhat fast on them).

Plenty of eating places from snack carts to serious restaurants

Ranks amongst one of the best cosmopolitan city parks we have ever been to

A beautiful and refreshing Park!
Jun 2019 • Couples
Gorky park is huge and not all tourists cover this place. This place has a lot of activities as its next to the Moskva River - Different Cruises, Hover Boards, Bicycles, Skating, beach games (they have created an area that accommodates few beach activities like volley ball etc.....You can spent a lot of time in this Park on a sunny day with cool breese...There are many restaurants situated in this area and you can see a lot of relaxed locals celebrating summer. Again a highly recommended Park and a must visit!

Awesome Russian history and culture an absolute must see if you go to Moscow. A mixture of old and new, great stroll, great coffee shops and a little snow in mid march.
