Yaroslavl' is famous for its churches. This one is just another beauty - for foreign visitors. For intelligent Russians, however, it tells a sentimental story because it was in this city that Russian artist Alexei Savrasov (virtually unknown outside of this country) started creating his masterpiece - a painting called The Rooks Have Come Back. It can easily be found on the Internet but one should know that Savrasov made first sketches of his future chef d'œuvre depicting this very church. We visited it in summer and were very much impressed, both by it and by the story we heard. Took great photos as well.…

Hard to say nice things about the Church when you have been on the road 23 days and seen more churches, Cathedrals and Monasteries than you care to remember. It was quaint inside.

This church is located not far from the Assumption Church which was the purpose of our visit to this area of Yaroslavl. The church reminded me of the Church of Elijah with its white plastered walls, plentiful green domes with gold crosses above short white drums decorated with textured columns, and a tapered bell tower. There was a colorful small fresco on the side of the building. One side wall looked like it needed repair, but on the whole the church photographed well. Our tour guide did not have much to say about this church as we got out of the car park and walked over to the Assumption Church. Not a tourist attraction in a city were other churches are the focal point of visitors' attention.…
