Note there are two Mariinsky theaters - Mariinsky and Mariinski II. We experienced both on two consecutive evenings - both times we enjoyed excellent operas. The Mariinsky is the older opera house with all its grandeur. Relatively small and intimate. Basically all seats are close to the stage so it is difficult to go wrong with seat selection. The Mariinsky... More

Favorite Composer? PIT. Favorite piece? Swan Lake. And where do we see the Russian composer's masterpiece? In Russia...at the second best ballet company in the world next to the Bolshoi of Moscow. And done in a perfect smaller theater venue. If ever in St Pete, do not miss this attraction. Maybe you'll get lucky and also see Swan Lake :)

We are visiting St. Petersburg for the first time, aboard a crusie line, and we debated about whether or not to add this to our schedule -- after a long day of touring, and before a second long day of touring -- but, oh! My advice now, after the fact, would be -- don't miss out! We love old theatres,... More

In August this year went to the Swan Lake ballet in Mariinsk theater. Exceptional show, which began with a tranfer the outward and return offered by the theater. Body tasteful orchestral dance, sets and costumes maravilhosos.Destaque for collective performance. unforgettable night we recommend to all in the most beautiful city in northern Europe.

You will find the Mariinsky quite informal many as local people attend in office attire, allow plenty of time on the interval for refreshments, another thing to remember it never seems to finish on time, perhaps another 30 minutes if you have a booked a taxi.

A fantastic experience in the heart of St. Petersburg seeing world class ballet. We didn't purchase the most expensive tickets but still managed to get a great spot in row 5 for around $100AUD each. If you want to be smart buy your tickets in advance from the box office within the Mariinsky and do not buy them through a... More

We saw the world famous Kirov Ballet & Opera playing Eugene Onegin by Tchaikovsky. It was splendid. We had purchased good box seats, however the Mariinsky Theatre had very generously given us an upgrade to even better seats for this fabulous show. It happened to be our wedding anniversary that we were celebrating. They did not know this. But it... More

Delighted by the artists of Jussen brothers on piano. The concert hall was great so was the amenities of food and drink (although too expensive). It lack that prestige that the old theatre has, but much more comfortable all round

We saw Swan Lake in early August and were very happy with the ballet and the theatre. We caught a taxi as it was raining, which was much more efficient than I anticipated it might be in such a crowded place. There is a security check to go in, and the doors/seats can be difficult to find as it is... More

The Mariinsky Theatre is impressive in it's own right but if you can afford to buy tickets and see a performance there, then do so. We attended a 3.5 hour production in June and though I am no expert, I was totally impressed. The old theatre is grand and lavish in decor. It used to be known as the Kirov... More
