I was excited to see the room with the Rasputin conspiracy which has wax figures depicting the scene. My tour guide Anna was punctual, courteous and well informed about the Yusupov family heritage which made the tour visit very interesting. I also appreciated her consideration for my knee injury and we were able to pace my visit. I love the works of art, decor and the home theater was fabulous. I highly recommend this tour and I hope you get Anna as your tour guide.

So many words come to mind when trying to describe our tour through I Love Travel St. Petersburg. Comprehensive, fact-filled, fun are just a few words to describe this tour company. If you want an up close, in depth and personal tour this is the only way to go.And, then there is, Anna! Anna is excellent and knows so much history. She is honest and kind and a delight to be with. Her driver, Alexander, is the best driver I have ever had and also very personable. They are a precision team and do what they can to accommodate your wishes. We were 2 couples (related) and we were all of the same opinion - we definitely made the right choice. Also, the tours offered are much more interesting and complete than any of the cruise ships offer (if you are arriving by ship). Additionally, the Visa process is easy and Trusthworthy with I Love Travel St. Petersburg. And, Anna is very punctual and was waiting for us when we cleared customs. She whisked us away in a beautiful Mercedes van for the adventure of a lifetime. This is a decision you will be very happy with.

We did a 2 day light tour in the disabled access vehicle. We were impressed with the tour guides knowledge and the quality of the vehicle - with rear lift access for wheelchairs. The driver was great as well and ensured that the chair was safely secured. All arrangements were made online and everything was just as described. I have already recommended them to friends and have no hesitation in making a general recommendation. The only reason I chose very good instead of excellent was because on the second day we wasted a lot of time waiting for a couple who did not turn up...not really the tours fault, but it was annoying.

St. Petersburg: We have cruised enough to know never, ever book tours provided by or promoted by the cruise ship. You will pay too much and be stuck at the will and itinerary of the tour company.
Cunard liked to infer that you would have to obtain a Visa from the Russia government to leave the ship if you did not book a tour with one of the ship’s tour providers. This is false and you don’t need a Visa as long as you book a tour with a “registered and licensed” tour provider.
We found five providers on the internet and broke them down as to price and services. We eliminated the lowest priced provider, but have to admit if we were 30 year-olds we might have gone with her.
Our choice was the “I Travel SPB” company, which also goes under the name of I Love Travel SPB. The two days of having a licensed tour guide, a driver and a fairly new Mercedes Benz at our disposal was about $1,000. It was $903 plus a 10% tip for the driver.
At first we thought this was a little pricey but quickly found out it was a bargain. Other passengers who signed up for ship tours had to sign up for two separate tours a day and join 14 other people on a small bus. There paid about the same we did per day, but we had freedom to decide where to go and when to go.
OUR GUIDE, Anastasia was a 34-year-old former English teacher at a St. pertsburg university, who found she could make more money being a tour guide and giving private English lessons. Being a tour guide doesn’t involve simply paying a fee to the government. Guides have to attend courses for each museum and pass exams. Anastasia said the classes to be a certified Hermitage guide involved attending classes for six days a week for six months. Other museums tour certifications involved classes between one-month and one-week in length.
I Travel SPB had emailed us tickets which we needed to show Russian customs when getting off the ship. They did not ask for a penny up front and trusted us to pay in full or make a partial payment at the end of the first day.
CUSTOMS: We elected to start our day at 10am instead of earlier and compete with all the ship tour groups trying to get through Russian Customs at the same time. It was a smart idea. While some passengers attempting to get off the ship at between 8am and 9am faced long lines that took as long as 45 minutes to clear, at 9:30 we had almost no line at all and were through customs and past a bored and uninterested Russia Customs agent in 10 minutes.
Both the owner of the company and our guide were there to meet us.
PAYMENT METHOD WAS UNUSUAL At first I was a little suspicious, but after one day I was okay with it and just wrote it off as a “Russian thing.” At the end of each day while returning to the ship, the driver pulled to the side of the road near the ship. Our guide and driver left the car and the tour company’s accountant got in and accepted our money and provided a receipt. They took credit cards, but we elected to pay in cash (US Dollars). The accountant, a former guide, spoke flawless English and was as nice as our guide.
Itinerary advice: SKIP THE HERMITAGE…at least if you are there during the tourist season and on a cruise ship, especially if you are there on the weekend. While our guide had tickets prearranged so we did not have to wait in a line, the crowds were massive and often as much as 10 deep in front of a piece of art.
Instead go to the RUSSIAN MUSEUM! The Hermitage does not feature any art work by Russians. The Russian Museum is work all done by Russians and it has some spectacular pieces with no crowds.
Also a trip to the Pavlosk Palace and Gardens and the Peterhof fountains should not be missed. They are about 25 or 30 miles out of town and it was nice to see the suburbs and be in a park used by the locals and not filled with tourists.
Churches in St. Petersburg are as numerous as Ming Tombs in China, despite decades of the Soviets trying to stamp them out. Of course most of the ones still standing are tourist attractions and not churches with active congregations. Our guide made it a point to tell us which ones actually were active churches.
DON’T DRINK THE WATER: As modern as St. Petersburg looks, even the locals do not drink the water. Our guide service provided bottled water, plus we brought some from the ship. While I wanted to stop at a McDonalds (there is one every three blocks in St. Petersburg) to see if the McNuggets are the same in Russia as in the US, my wife insisted we stop each day and try authentic Russia food. She thought it was great, I said I was not hungry and still full of cruise ship food.

From past experience my sister recommended that we made our own travel arrangements in St. Petersburg rather that booking the cruise line's own coach tour.
After finding Anna's website and an exchange of e-mails we booked the trip.
The cost whilst expensive at £580 for a family of four was similar to the cost of of the CC's coach tour, but this was for our own Mercedes minibus + driver + qualified tour guide + emigration paperwork + Hermitage Tickets.
We disembarked ship early, went through passport control, who viewed my 8 year old son as a threat to national security ! We were greeted in the cruise terminal building by Anna and Irena who was introduced as our guide for the day. Irena and Anna had clearly discussed an itinerery that would have interest for children too.
We were fortunate that docked on a Saturday as we were soon being whisked through the near empty streets of St Petersburg - during the week these can be gridlocked. Over the next 10-11 hours we saw a vast amount of the city centre including:
Visiting the local produce market including fruit veg fish honey etc this was the sort of place the locals shopped.
Travelling on the St Petersburg Metro, this is the deepest in the world with incredible escalators and ornate underground booking halls.
Lunch at a genuine Russian pie shop, fillings included egg, cabbage and fish.
Climbed to the top of St Issacs Cathedral - amazing view.
Highlights of the Winter Palace / Hermitage Museum (Several days worth ideally !)
Shopping on the Nevesky Aspect (The Oxford Street of St Petersburg) including the Zenit football shop.
And much much more.
At many of the landmarks that we stopped at there were were wedding parties touring the city to take photos - they all looked so young - late teens!
Whist only in her early 20's Irena had an amazing insight into the city and its history. Apparently she spent her winters studying for the official tour guide accreditation.
In a short time we gained a valuable 'taster' on St Petersburg, we would love to go back there again one day.
We cannot recommend this option enough !

Our family of 4 had a private tour arranged through I Love Travel SPB and we were so happy with our day. We asked for a tour to include Hermitage, Peterhof Palace, shopping, a grocery store and a trip on the Metro. Our guide was informative and kept us going at a great pace, so we saw everything we requested, even lunch at a local restaurant. Our driver provided a clean & air conditioned van. We would definitely recommend I Love Travel SPB, it would be great to visit Russia again.

Really enjoyed the services provided by "I Love Travel St. Petersburg". Anna was incredibly responsive and helped work out the best custom itinerary for us, according to our preferences and availability. Anna's guides - Tanya and Vladimir - were superb! Professional, knowledgeable, and fun to be with, they made our tours great fun, as well as educational and memorable. I would definitely recommend this company to all family and friends visiting St. Petersburg in the future.

Booked this tour based on a family friend's recommendation and was not disappointed. Anna along with our driver Constantine made our visit to St. Petersburg one to remember. Anna was professional and very knowledgeable in explaining the history of the various attractions we visited but did so in a manner that did not inundate us with too much information. The two restaurants she she took us to had top notch food. Cannot recommend Anna and I Love St. Petersburg enough. We will definitely book again the next time we are in Russia

We thoroughly endorse all the good things said about I Love St Petersburg in previous reviews. From my first contact with Irina, all my emails were replied to by return and with a suggested itinerary which gave me confidence that she really understood what we were looking for. The cruise passenger visa arrangements were simple – just providing passport details - and all paper work was emailed promptly on receipt of 10% of the total fee. On arrival at St P, our guide Victoria was there to meet us at the docks and both she and our driver, Andrei, were warm and welcoming. There then followed two days of meticulously planned, though open to alteration, visits and walks to the gardens , palaces and churches in the itinerary as well as one that wasn’t. Thank you, Victoria, for suggesting the visit to the Church of Spilled Blood as an addition. I really recommend the Nevsky monastery and cemetery which is not mentioned in many guide books, and the ride on the metro and visit to the famers’ market which are things you can only do with a private tour. We were amazed at Victoria’s encyclopaedic knowledge which encompassed everything- not only the long and involved history of St P but also all the writers, musicians, poets and artists that originated there. All the information was delivered simply and in fluent colloquial English with many jokes along the way and she gave us a personal insight into life in St Petersburg today. Andrei was consistently there promptly when required to drive us to the next venue and always taking care for our safety and comfort.
We would whole heartedly recommend I Love travel and hope to use them again.

We took the two day tour from our cruise ship with I Love Travel St Petersburg. The tour was all inclusive including all entry fees and lunch. Being a small group we had priority entry before larger groups which was particularly useful in crowded places like the Hermitage.
This tour met all our expectations and more. Anna, the guide was extremely informative in her commentary and could answer all our questions about local living and social conditions. Her English was first class and we were relaxed by the quality of the car and the care of the driver .
Highly recommended.

Hello! For the 3-Day Small Group Shore Excursion in St. Petersburg, at what time do we return to the ship each day?
Gary
Written 17 November 2019
Dear Gary, the scheduled return time on board on days 1 and 2 is 6 p.m. (18:00), and on day 3 (your shorter day in St. Petersburg the return time is 4 p.m. (16:00). If for some reason you need to be back on board earlier - please let us know in advance, so that we could change the plans accordingly (if it is possible provided museum arrangements).

Dear Anna
many thanks! We are going to be on a cruise, arriving in St. Petersburg on 23.8. a.m. and leaving 24.8. p.m. My husband uses a folding electric wheelchair.
We would like to visit the Hermitage and Peterhof and generally see the Highlights of the city. Any suggestions?
Thanks, Helga N.
Written 22 July 2018
Dear Helga,
Thank you for your message. Can your husband get in/out of the car on his own, or does he need a specialized wheelchair van with an electric elevator?
If he can get in/out of a car/van on his own, then you can consider Spotlight tour TripAdvisor Experiences Product code:63230P4
If a wheelchair van is required, then it should be a private tour. In our reviews page on TripAdvisor you can find website and e-mail address. On the website we have a 2-day accessible tour described. It will be easier if you e-mail us to book the tour.
Best regards,
Anna

I would like to know whether we can travel as part of a group or whether you would suggest a privat tour. Also, do we need to organise our own visa? How much would a private tour cost?
Written 21 July 2018
Hello, thank you for your question. We have both private tours and small group tours. The choice depends upon your dates in St. Petersburg and which way you travel (arrive by a cruise ship or fly in). If you come by a cruise ship, no visa is needed, as we arrange visa-free disembarkation for our customers. If you fly in or arrive by rail, then a tourist visa to Russia is required. In this case we provide visa invitation (a.k.a. "visa support").
The cost of the tour depends upon many things: how many people take the tour (adults/students/kids), how long the tour days would be and what museums are to be included. For you to have a sample and get an idea about the costs, please check our 2-day private tour published on TripAdvisor Experiences. TripAdvisor product code: 63230P15
You are welcome with any questions (and more details)
Best regards,
Anna

Is your Catherine’s Palace and Amber Room tour available visa-free on 8/23/18. We will be in port 3 days. Also, what time does palace open? If it is available to cruise ship passengers, what time is pick up and drop off? Thank yo)u.
Written 15 July 2018
Thank you for your question. The tour you see on TripAdvisor Experiences is meant for tourists staying in the hotels, so it does not include extra charges, such as port access fees. However, the tour is available for August 23, and you are welcome to book it as a private tour separately, contacting us via e-mail/Viber/WhatsApp. Mobile/Viber/WhatsApp number is +79219318727 The Catherine Palace opens at 10 a.m., however the pick up and drop off times depend upon the entrance time cnfirmed by the Palace. This can only be finalized once the tour is booked and we make the reservation with the Palace.
You can also book the Catherine Palace tour as part of the 2-day Small Group Tour (product code 63230P2) or a private 2-day tour (product code 63230P15)

I'd like to tour St Petersburg. We are two adults and looking at arriving via round trip train from Helsinki. it would be great to spend the night. We plan on being in Amsterdam Aug 1 - 7 and flying out on Aug 28. St Petersburg would be our highlight. Definitely like to see the Amber Room and the Hermitage. Probably not interested in Fabrege, rather architecture/art/city/foods/theatre. I guess we are required to get Visas as well.

Dear Kevin, thank you for your interest in our tour services. I believ it will be better to communicate via email as I will also need to send you visa support (=visa inviation). How many days will you have in St. Petersburg? You can find our contacts in the I Love Travel St. Petersburg profile. If it is more convenient for you to correspond here - no problem. Let me know what you think. Best regards, Anna

how large are the groups for the 2 day St Petersburg tours from a cruise ship in May?
Written 3 February 2018
Hello, our groups are not large in general: we do not make groups larger than 14 persons. On average we have 8-10 persons in our group tours. Accessible group tours have 8 persons max (including 2 wheelchair users). The minimal number of persons necessary for the tour to take place is 2, so sometimes we have semi-private tours for 4 or 6 people.
If you prefer a private tour, then there will be only you (plus guide and driver)
If you let me know precise dates, I can check, how many people have already signed up for a particular tour from your particular cruise.

Hello! Thank you for your interest to our tour services, I will be glad to help you plan and arrange everything necessary for the tours of your choice in St. Petersburg. Would you like to have a private tour just for the 3 of you, or would you like to join in a mini-group tour?
If you are a first-time visitor to our city, you can consider a private tour including the most famous sights: Hermitage, Peterhof, Catherine Palace & Amber room, Church on the Blood and St. Isaac's. A private tour from the cruise including all these sights will be 302 USD per person in a group of 3 persons. To book this tour you need to contact me via e-mail, which you will find in our profile.
You are welcome with any further questions.
