I've visited it without any particular expectation but surprisingly it was probably one from the strongest impressions of all my visits in St.Petersburg. The walls, the furniture, the books - you have an impression to touch the history. Even in the air you can feel almost tangible breath of history. The Volter's private library is there (Volter is french philosopher).... More

I needed to see an ancient manuscript in the Oriental Manuscripts building. It required letters from my university and a security check in at the front door. This is a newer library - contemporary, nice inside and out, with tons of books and literature. But... I like the old library more. It's centrally located, it's in a nice classic building, and it's just nice and cozy. It fits more the city style. The new one is far away. It's very spacious and light. I think they should... More
