Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Other than a few audience members trying to record the performance, Swan Lake at Tovstonogov Bolshoy Drama Theater is really a delight. My wife and I were in the middle of Row 4 and being able to see facial expression is really great. The seats are a bit lacking in padding but the dancing and sets are fantastic. As other reviewers have said, the orchestra was perfect. Perfect.

First, make sure you buy your tickets on the theatre website or else you might end up paying two to three times more if you book through one of the various websites that offer tickets for St Petersburg ballet.

It was my first ballet so I cannot really compare with any other places. Being said that, the seats are comfortable (I was ground floor, middle, about 5 rows from the front row). the vision from my seat was great although I noticed that the orchestra conductor is quite high up. From my seat, it seemed like the person in the middle seat, front row, might have struggled a bit to see the ballet so maybe best to be 2, 3 rows from the front.

During the two breaks you can buy water, some alcohol and food but it's very simple snacks.

We have seen Swan Lake performed in US before but there's nothing like seeing a Russian ballot in a historical russian theater. Performances were excellent, orchestra and conductor were amazing. Actually had a wonderful Black conductor who was born in Leningrad.

Small theatre mainly full of tourists groups. At the beginning I was reluctant to go as I thought that the quality of the show could not be good but... I was totally wrong. Awesomely performed, this is a must in Saint Petersburg. The cast is fantastic but the orchestra... Simply perfect. Totally recommended.

On the counterpart, the ticket only displays Cyrillic characters and the staff, only 2 or 3 at most, speak a very basic English. It's not a piece of cake to locate the seats.

We enjoyed a lovely performance of Swan Lake in this lovely old theatre, which has a gorgeous chandelier, and, in spite of its age, is still very charming. The staff were very helpful when I had to come out of the auditorium due to a coughing fit, and organised water for me. There is also, handily, an ATM in the cloakroom area
