I work at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC. I know art museums. The Hermitage is one of the great museums in the world with very strong holdings of Dutch (especially Rembrandt), French, Italian and Impressionist collections.

Even if you are not into the fabulous art collection this museum holds, it is worth visiting to experience the opulence and grandeur of the architecture. Truly memorable!

I always buy the 2 day pass in advance - so much easier. This trip I used it for a Wednesday evening which was great as the museum is quite empty. Then I used it for first thing Thursday morning which was again empty. As one of the first ones there - I went straight to the Peacock Clock then... More

words cannot express how amazing this place is. I went back three times and didn't see the whole museum. Definitely on my list for my next visit to St. Petersburg

For a first timer, you see a lot of what the history of Russia is about. You also get a little of everything else as well. But it a really nice museum, impressive in size and very elegant. Great place to visit

In a few words: amazing, brathtaking, gorgeous, unforgattable, mesmerizing,... Do not miss if you are visiting St. Peersburg, plan ahead to get tickets and take plenty of time as it is huge and you dont want to be rushed through.

One of the best museums in the world with fantastic collections that will satisfy any type of museum-goer. If you like ancient times, check out the first floor: it has everything from Ancient Egypt and Greece to Assyria and Central Asian Kurgans (Graveyards). The second floor houses a fantastic collection of Russian Imperial Interior Design (Gothic Style Library is a... More

This place was just so grand. I am absolutely short of words to describe its beauty and content but I'll try my best. Rated as one of the top 3 museums in the world and rightfully so. When you visit this pace make sure you keep the whole day free. It's large and it's exhaustive. You may want to book... More
