This place isn't in the city center. In Smolny cathedral there are less tourists. The blue is nice and typical for this place. One of my favorites.

Smolny Cathedral, a beautiful pastel blue baroque cathedral is another of Rastrelli's architectural masterpieces. It is now undergoing refurbishing but viewed from the exterior, it is stunning. The interior of the cathedral is quite plain and is now used primarily as a concert and exhibition hall.

The cathedral, dating from the 18th century, and the buildings around constitute a great ensemble, and a distinctive feature of the city with their fresh white and blue decorations. The perspective creates a very pleasant effect, not exaggerated in size and really elegant. Unfortunately the church is open but basically no decoration remains inside, and today it is used mainly... This blue and white cathedral really stands out in the landscape. It is beautiful inside but it is rather empty compared to other cathedrals but this is a place of payer not a museum, You are not allowed to take photographs inside. It is a very peaceful and calm environment. A pleasant visit. Men do not forget to remove your... More

Smolny Cathedral was built by the Italian architect Rastrelli over a sixteen year period from 1748 to 1764. Unfortunately the finances ran out – and the bell tower could not be built. Another seventy years would pass before the building was completed – but with a neo classical interior. It is a beautiful blue and white building. Rastrelli also built... More

We took pictures of the outside of this building but did not go inside. I believe there was a service taking place. It is one of the few churches I saw which is blue in color. The architecture was splendid, very intricate, hard to capture it all in pictures. We did not go inside so I cannot comment on what... More

This cathedral is my go-to for a calm and beautiful church where I can rest my mind after a long walk around the city. Tourists are rarely seen in here, and the place hasn't lost its authenticity. You feel like stepping into a real church, not a museum. Do visit in here, it is not far away from the old... More

We went to visit this beautiful Cathedral and 80 percent is covered in scaffolding. We were so disappointed as this was a must see on my St Petersburg list. It will stay this way for many months to come. Very Disappointed.

It is not far from the main street (Nevsky Prospeckt) and you can easily take the bus going to this church. The church is absolutely beautiful and even with the blue sky above. You can enter the church for free but the photo inside is prohibited.
