Although the museum's current home is too small to display all 17 million species in the collection, more than half a million are on display in the form of skeletons, stuffed animals and other exhibits.

I was surprised how many objects there were in the museum. There are hundreds of different insects on the 2nd floor and all kinds of animals on the first

If you think Singapore zoo is great, this is far better. All right, all are taxidermist specimens and not quite alive. but where can you see so many types of animals in simulated natural habitats all under one roof without braving the elements? From polar bears to orang utans, from snakes to snails, from wooly mammoths to whales - they've... More

I visited the museum and I was astonished at the number of exhibits on display. I was impressed by the quality of some of the displays as you could see the amount of work gone into them. Some of the displays are old and outdated but I think they are better than nothing for the local students. I had to... More

A tatty moth eared place that may have once seen better days. It is only worth visiting to see the world's only intact mammoth. Other wise just a very sad place

We really weren't expecting to see such a good exhibition inside the museum. You can see that they are lacking on funding but doing their best to survive - a lot of signs are back from USSR age - can not afford to change them. Very good for individual travelers or families with the kids. Well the only thing all... More

This museum was one that I went into just to kill some time and 2 hours later was amazed. The museum is filled with rows upon rows of skeletons, and taxidermy animals that brings together the entire animal world. They also have a number of animals that are no longer with us including two baby mammoths that were found preserved... More

The museum's collection is surprisingly extensive. There are rows after rows of taxidermied animals, birds and other wildlife. They are beautifully displayed. Though 99% of the exhibition is not available in English, it is still an awesome experience walking around the collection. Highly recommend this place!

For anyone interested in Natural History, this is a must see. It reminded me a lot of Dublin's Natural History Museum with a very 19th Century feel to it with most displays in glass cabinets but this museum has some VERY special specimens indeed. Highlights include extinct species including a Tasmanian Tiger, Passenger Pidgeon, and a Steller's Sea Cow, a... More

We've been to natural history museums all over the world (including NY, London, the Smithsonian among others), and this one, despite it's very soviet setup and lack of air conditioning, has the best collection of them all. Yes, it could use a face lift, but this is probably the best kept secret in Russia. Oh, and admission is 200 Rubles,... More
