Eggs and much more
Apr 2021
This is a world class museum set in the very center of St. Pet. When walking the main Nevsky prospekt turn left when you reach the Fontanka canal.
Mostly we came for the world famous eggs, but were overwhelmed with other art pieces.
There are only 9 eggs left and displayed that were made for the last two tsars (Alexander III and Nicholai II) - all others are in private collections. They occupy one room, while in all others are amazing art pieces (jewelry, silverware, paintings, etc...) made for aristocracy by Mr. Faberge and other eminent Russian artists.
The museum is open till late (9 and 10 PM) so it's very convenient as you can visit other attractions beforehand that have shorter working hours. Count on around 2 hrs for a visit.

Exquisite pieces on display
Sep 2019
All on one level in a gorgeous mansion on a side street off nevsky, this is a great place to spend a few hours.
There are small tours going through but not the swamped feeling we had at other attractions.
The craftsmanship and the history behind the pieces is amazing, giving a glimpse of grand lives in a past era.
The is a good gift shop on the lower level with lots of books, jewellery etc to buy. A good place to buy some faberge jewellery or ornaments that are good quality and not rip offs.

Great for history buffs, and photos freely allowed.

This is not just a jewellery tour. The Faberge museum is a lesson in Russian history. I missed seeing this on my first trip to the city in 2018, but on my second trip last year I was delighted to note that our group leader had budgeted two hours for this wonderful place. True, if you don't get excited by history, and by small historical objects, you should give this a miss, but you may not have a choice if you are on a group tour. If you do this on your own, PLEASE GET AN AUDIO GUIDE! It is an absolute must, well worth the extra cost. We had a wonderful guide, so we got great explanations of the important pieces. There are wonderful stories behind many of the pieces. Photos freely allowed, and some of the pieces are simply stunning. It is not all Faberge eggs, many of the pieces are small masterpieces of miniaturisation of everyday objects! One word of caution: it can be crowded, so those with a stroller may find negotiating the narrow spaces a bit difficult!

Do this on your own, not part of a tour.

Visited on our second trip to this city as it wasn't open when we first came. We were in town for 2 days only on a cruise and had the option of a "St Petersburg On Your Own" trip which saved us from getting tourist visas and meant we could visit at our own pace as long as we made it back to the drop off point by a certain time. Easy to find and amazing exhibits, lots to see but a bit confusing upstairs getting from one room to the other across the landing- we almost missed a chunk of the museum and staff not always great with English. Very glad we came without a tour group as we saw them being whisked from one exhibit to another at whistle-stop pace, we were able to take our time, read all about the exhibits and listen to the audio guides which had loads of info about the pieces and were all numbered and easy to follow. We could also view pieces from all angles without a crowd blocking the view of the small items. Really enjoyed this, learnt a lot, and it wasn't expensive.

Renovated Palace housing the Museum
Mar 2020
Two ticks in one go! The Palace has been extensively refurbished and is a must see in its own right, to hold the Faberge Museum too, a bonus. Shop (variety of prices) and cafe at ground level. Strict security at the door coats and bags need to be checked in. Personalised head guide is well worth the extra cost (cleaning wipes provided). Museum highlighted the development of the Faberge brand and includes 10+ Eggs (those not in Moscow). Photos can be taken (no need to buy an extra ticket). Although some of the exhibits were not my taste, others were exquisite. Definitely recommended (but it is quite a walk down Nevsky Prospect).

A museum worth to see
May 2019
I wish I had spent more time here. But I did not have much time to spend. A beautiful museum with lots of heritage and things to see. I would go again.

Nice visit
Jan 2020
You will find this museum nice if you are fond of jewelry, silver/golden utensils, miniscule decorative pieces and precios materials. The exhibition is rather small and not entirely interesting. Overall condition of the museum halls is excellent.

Do not miss this!

It doesn't take more than a few hours to tour, but you will be glad you did. The offerings do not disappoint. We were able to take a Russian Uber there and back to our hotel no problem. This was one of the hidden highlights!

Exquisite
Feb 2020 • Friends
I took my 21 year old daughter and my son’s 20 year old girlfriend and they enjoyed this museum as much as me. This museum was my favourite. The eggs were exquisite and there was more to see. We had about an hour but I would have liked longer. It was relatively quiet with just 2 tour groups so we could take our time looking at the eggs. We used the audio guide (I got one audio for the 3 of us although she said it was one between 2). It’s very close to Nevsky Prospekt.
