Came here to see a ballet which was OK but the surrounds of this theatre are awesome. You could just imagine the swishing of skirts 200 years ago.

I had bought tickets online on a website which looked like the official Mariinsky website. Even exchanged some e-mails with someone called "Alla Petrova" from Mariinsky-Theatre.com. Phone number: 7 (812) 748 51116. Printed 3 tickets at home, got to the theater, they were rejected. Then we were sent from window to window, talking to very rude people. They said the... More

I'm sure I must have annoyed the person behind... More

At this close range, it seemed to be a troop of pachyderms cluncking around the stage, with alll the grace of aging... More

We saw Jenufa in this beautiful theatre. We had a box on the ground floor, which was nice but not spectacular. The boxes on the balcony looked much nicer. But really worth it.

The Mariinskiy Theatre is a historic theater of opera and ballet in Saint Petersburg. It opened in 1860 & became the pre-eminent music theater of late 19th century Russia, where many of the stage masterpieces of Tchaikovsky, Mussorgsky, and Rimsky-Korsakov received their premieres. Through most of the Soviet era, it was known as the Kirov Theater. Today, the Mariinskiy Theater... More

Recommend a visit to a Mariinsky performance if you ever visit St Peterburg. Culture at its very best.
