We visited the museum with our five year old. We were all excited about the virtual submarine tour, liked the exhibits (even though they are in Russian only we were able to understand enough). To see the freshwater seals and fish was another highlight. We're...More

This is a great museum and aquarium. We had an extremely knowledgable guide ( Helen from Odyssy) to explain everything as most signs were in Russian. It was fascinating but I felt sad for the two seals!

It started out with information displays about the Lake which had very interesting data and, as we had an English-speaking guide, learnt quite a bit about its size and ecosystem. Definitely could have done without the fish displays and the sight of those poor seals.

Museum is pretty average. Has some interesting things to see but hardly any of it is written in English. The aquariums were interesting, especially the very cute Baikal seals however their tank was very small and basic and I couldn't help but feel like uncomfortable...More

I was impressed with the concise but wide scope of the displays. One learns of the geological origins of Lake Baikal and the significance of the flora and fauna of the surrounding ecozone. English speaking guides provide a variety of information and gave opportunity to...More

I was not impressed by the museum. The staff were less than friendly, it was not well heated and the animals there (particularly the seals) looked bored and sad in their tiny tanks. Very few displays had English alternatives, so it took a lot of...More

Seals kept in tiny tanks going mad, rude ticket office ladies who kept sending me out into -23 degree weather to catch an bus or walk 3km to Listvyanka when I desperately asked her in Russian to call a taxi, small exhibitions that hardly warrant...More

Great overview of Lake Baikal. Displays are in Russian and English. The person who gave us the walkthru was excellent and very knowledgeable.

I went here in September 2016 during a work trip and I stayed at Baikal Hotel just within walking distance from this museum. Here you can learn all about the famous and unique Lake Baikal in a few hours. Lake Baikal is a very special...More
