I was surprised to learn that this memorial was built by the mothers of the war dead in the Afghanistan and Chechnya wars. It was their own fundraising that paid for the memorial and not a government project. Too often memorials tend to glorify the military campaign(s) rather than the devastating losses of families of the military and in particular... More

Another Russian War Memorial, but like all Russian War Memorials extremely well and tastefully done. What does make this memorial different is that commemorates those who died in the disastrous Afghan war as opposed to WWII. Moving ambience about the place.

This monument is nothing special. But its located in a nice small park. There are a few trees and some nice places to site. I think its worth at least one visit.

A very unusual monument which is strangely emotional. You must go and see it. Spend a few minutes reflecting on what it symbolises

I don't know why, but when I visited there I felt pretty sad right the way. All of sudden I felt for those who lost their families in war. When I left this place, I prayed for peace in my heart.

Here they have the ability to make impressive memorials. In my country especially the new ones memorials/statues are strange, you do not know what they stand for unlike here. This one was touching. You should go and see it.

I wouldn't like to say that this place is one of the greatest places in this city, but I'm glad that we have such monuments. This war isn't so popular and we remember it quite seldom. In Yekaterinburg this monument looks even bigger than monument of the Second World War victims.

A memorial I will always remember. Sombre and reflective thoughts in recognition of the millions of brave men and women who lost their lives trying to make this world a better place. God bless them all!

While not to the grand scale of many Russian WWII memorials, yet this one is rather poignant. It encompasses the huge toll that the Soviet Union suffered during the war, to a degree that I don't think that many in the West even realize.

The war memorial is an ok visit. It can be preety interesting if you can get an english-speaking guide! Loved the black iron pavilion from the 17th century. Worth a shot.
