Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I expected so much more from an area that is so heavily advertised.Yes, the remains of an ancient road are great but it's such a shame that they are surrounded by super loud, tacky shops with staff clapping hands outside, people trying to sell you watches (fake no doubt). There are some nice restaurants in the area, such as the Buddhist one inside the massive temple or the Indonesian one down the road from it but most places are very average. It's nice to see the old area around Beijing rd but bot the road itself.Wayyyy too crowded.

The street has more restaurants than you can eat at in a year! The archeological sites are interesting for about a minute. One side of the road has ultra new and impressive shops, the other rotting western style buildings destined to be destroyed soon. I spent an hour an a half walking around at night. If you’re close, it’s fine, but don’t make a special visit.

Portions of ancient roads which date back to the Tang Dynasty (618-907) and subsequent periods, including the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) and Qing Dynasty (1644-1912), were discovered in 2002. The portions have been cleaned by archaeologists and preserved in thick glass enclosures. In total, there were ten or more layers of road surface, suggesting that new roads were built on top of existing roads by having them resurfaced. I’ve likely passed by these enclosed relics more than 100 times, and have yet been unable to take great photos. It seems that there are always buildings being reflected off the glass surfaces.

Layers of ancient roads can be seen through glass displays on Beijing Lu (Beijing Road). Difficult to take good photos of the ancient road layers, as there is far to much reflection off the glass protective top.

The Beijing Lu Ancient Avenue is quite a famous landmark in Guangzhou. There is an ancient road and entrance gateway that was discovered and it is now a national heritage site. Do check it out.

Good place to walk around and soak in the local culture beside the shopping. There are signboards around to explain the significance of this place in English.

Visited the Beijing Road famous pedestrian mall several times. Each time I will not miss this traditional Chinese restaurant called Ziwei Fang, located at 525 Hui Fu Dong Lu, Bei Jing Lu, Yuexiu Qu, Guangzhou Shi, Guangdong Sheng, China. The XO fried chee cheong fun is super yummy. Another delicacy is onion pancake. Enjoy!

just another touristy walking street. You'll find established Chinese brands, souvenirs and tasty street snacks. Don't expect anything traditional here and everything is more expensive than other places in Guangzhou. Still if you have limited amount of time, this place is very enjoyable.

Hello, could you tell me please up to what time the shops are open? We are staying only one night in this area of Guangzhou, and we do not know if we have time for both Beijing Road (or Shangxiajiu) AND a Pearl River Cruise.
