This is a very nice, modern museum that is located in the central Guangzhou area - a museum with an interesting history. According to Wikipedia, this museum houses a 2,000 year-old tomb of the Nanyue King, Zhao Mo in Guangzhou. This Tomb was discovered by accident in 1983 when a construction crew was getting the area ready to build a new hotel at this site. Five years later (1988), the Museum was opened at this site instead.
The museum houses over 1,000 burial artifacts from the Tomb, and you can actually walk down (underground) to see where the actual original coffin chamber was located - interesting! The museum is somewhat large in size because there are just so many items found at this site including: Jade jewelry, gold and silver vessels, burial suit of King Zhao Mo and many more items of interest.
Overall, I found the museum to be very interesting and worthwhile.

This is Guangzhou's prime tourist attraction and attracts a huge local crowd. The mausoleum is better heard of than viewed in person, though. The museum tries to enrich the visitor experience with some seasonal exhibition but it is quite unappealing. The mausoleum is pretty small too. Only the jade collection can interest tourists. Admission is cheap, though.

We had a great time here. The Museum is well laid out did holds some spectacular exhibits and all of this is free of charge! The highlight is the tomb itself and the burial suit. The main exhibit locations have English explanations but the temporary parts did not. I did find a staff member that speaks English which was helpful. Don’t miss this if you are nearby.

I was very excited to see this museum after a positive review in That's Guangzhou but I found it very underwhelming. There is a couple of halls dedicated to ceramics which we just weren't into. Highlights of course are the facade of the building and being able to walk into the tomb.

This is a place to come if you like porcelain, history, and archaeology, which I do. The artifacts were beautifully displayed and meaningful. There were much-appreciated English captions on all the artifacts, although I wish some had included deeper explanations: for example, how did the dew-collecting cup work, and how did they figure out what it was?
My children, 11 and 13, were less enthused, since they would rather play with their phones than learn something, but I think it was good for them. They most liked the interactive digital screens, the jewelry and the swords.

A historical emperor tomb dating back more than 2000 years that was found by chance in the 80s. Well preserved tomb and a nice museum contains all the artifacts found. Very much worth a visit for anyone interested in history.

My third time through this great museum. Every time, I learn something new. Don't know if the entrance fee varies. We paid 5 rmb per adult. The poor concubines who had to be buried with the King. I assume their burial was the same time as his, and not at the time of their natural death. Great archaeological find. Wonderful collection of jade pieces which made up the King's burial garment, Museum is not large, but is well worth seeing and is very educational. Most displays are in Chinese and English.

The emperor was buried in a suit made of decorative flat jade rings, woven together by silk. There is a very informative video presentation, maybe about eight minutes in length. Well worth watching. It is in Chinese with English subtitles.

If you've got a couple of free hours in Guangzhou and feel a need to investigate some of the amazing history of a country breathlessly hurtling towards the future, a visit to this Museum will not disappoint. I've experienced some pretty under-whelming archaeological sites and museums in China but this one would have to rate as one of my favourites.
Its impressive facade and interior provides a welcome escape from the constant noise and pollution typical of most major Chinese cities.
I caught a taxi straight from my hotel on the other side of town - the taxis here are so cheap, help save a lot of time trying to work out the public transport system and a definite plus is witnessing the wonder of the interaction between cars, pedestrians and buses from the front seat - usually better than any computer game I've ever played! The museum ticket cost less than 2USD and fortunately for those with little or no Chinese language skills, there are excellent descriptions of all of the artefacts in recognizable English.
Found in 1983 under a huge mound during the preparation of an urban site for an apartment block, the excavated tomb can be inspected in detail. It has been sympathetically conserved: a contrast with other 'reconstructions' done in the earlier days of Chinese archaeology. There are also spacious exhibition rooms holding the nearly 1000 artefacts that were recovered from the untouched tomb. The exquisite examples of jade, bronze, ivory, gold, silver and pottery artefacts found with the remains of the Emperor, his four concubines, musicians, eunuchs and other favourite courtiers provide a fascinating glimpse of their everyday lives 2100 years ago. There is a huge cross-section of items including the Emperor's jade burial suit, the usual precious jewellery, extremely rare remnants of silk textiles, medicines and the musicians' instruments.
There is the usual retailing opportunity in the gift shop, with many reproductions and souvenirs - unfortunately, as is often the case, the quality of the publications and postcards leaves a lot to be desired. This is a shame considering the beauty and workmanship of the objects on display and the excellent standard of curation of the entire museum. Perhaps it's best to just take your memories away with you.

Visit to this Museum was nice since it was something different from our weekly hangout. The place is quite large and well maintained and the exhibit of the king etc. were quite interesting to see. Overall quite a decent outing.
