I like this place very much. Is a prehistorical museum, very informative . Exit the Banpo MRT Station, go straight 5 min to the traffic light cross junction, turn left walk 2 min then can see the museum on the left. If want to eat breakfast, one can walk straight from Banpo MRT station turn left to behind building turn right, there are few Chinese breakfast small shop at the back of the building. After breakfast , walk straight then turn left to walk to the museum.

Records a sophisticated civilisation from more than 6000 years ago

This is well worth a visit when you are in Xi'an from the point of view appreciating comparative developments in different parts of the world. The ceramics here are remarkable since they already display aesthetic as opposed to purely functional features. The excavations are sad in many ways with burial jars for children whose mortality rate was probably high featuring.

One of the region's earliest tourist destinations but now revitalized

Often over-shadowed by the nearby terracotta warriors, this Neolithic site is still worth a visit. The museum is newly refurbished, signage is good, and a walk around the site is both instructive and interesting. Less crowded than other sites.

Prehistoric Chines Village
Jul 2019 • Couples
Banpo is an archaeological site dating back to ~6000 BC. It contains a village of about 45 homes, with artifacts such as tools, implements and skeletal remains. There are also several displays with recreations of what the wooden structures would have looked like. You can easily spend 1-2 hours here. This was not as crowded as many of the other more well-known attractions.

Worthwhile if you have the time
Jul 2019 • Family
We had the time to head to Banpo after visiting thr Terra Cotta Warriors and asked our guide to drop us off there. It's just outside the city limits, so it can also be done by public transportation. The museum was almost empty which, in China, is hard to believe.
This is a prehistoric site with fairly well preserved areas where the huts stood. Pottery has been found as well, including that kept close to houses for burial of infants.
There is a short video in English (rare thing in China) presenting the site and the settlement.
The site will take you about an hour to visit.

a different slice of history
Jun 2019 • Couples
I went to Banpo after visiting the Terracotta Warriors as the 2nd part of my private tour.
Banpo is a Neolithic site and can't be compared to the Warriors.
It was very quiet when we went as it is not the main attraction in Xi'an and a bit off the usual tourist route. As I am a history fanatic I was looking forward to seeing the 6000 yr old site. The ruins are impressive but only if you love history, The most impressive ruins were the 6000 yr old graves that contain actual skeletons. This is a must go if you want to see something much older than the usual tourist sights.

Foreigners should visit here instead of Terracotta Warrior Museum
Apr 2019 • Family
This is a museum showing neolithic archeology findings in Xi'an. It is dated even longer than Terracotta warrior's period. But somehow not many people visit here. Such a shame.
