Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

We booked the 'In Pursuit of Pandas, Christmas Special' and traveled in December 2023.

Wendy Wu were fantastic throughout, from our booking to support with our visas to providing an informative travel guide so that we were as prepared as possible before departing.

This tour included stays in Beijing, Xi'An and Chengdu with an internal flight and bullet train transfers. At each location we had a coach and local guide (thanks Allan and Captain Kevin!) along with being accompanied by a national guide throughout.

Highlights of our trip included, the Great Wall, Terracotta Warriors, Xi'An walled city and night-time illuminations, Le Shan Grand Buddha and of course the Pandas of Chengdu.

All of this would not have been anywhere near as fantastic without the knowledge, experience, teachings about China and all-round support and warmth from our national escort, Jason.

Without his support, translation and navigation we would not have been able to enjoy so much of China, its history and its culture. He taught us so much and we consider him our family. Thank you so much!

For anyone wanting to experience this wonderful country, without any worry then a Wendy Wu tour is for you! So much so, we are looking to book with them again for another far-east destination.

We booked the magnificent China tour 2019 and waited patiently throught the COVID shutdowns, it was certainly worth the wait. The itinery was spot on, and the country and history amazing. The national tour director Betty was excellent, very knowledgeable, helpful and made the trip so much better, she is certainly an ambassador for Wendy Wu and China. Since we returned home we have been telling our friends to go and see China, one of the best holidays we've had and we are already planning to visit China again next year.

I would 100% recommend Wendy Wu.
A wonderful full-on experience. We visited Beijing , forbidden city, the great wall, Xian, Chengdu, Yangtze river, three gorge dam, Guilin, Suzhou and Shanghai, with many more ‘wow’ places in-between. The itinerary was well thought out.
Our tour guide Amanda was with us throughout with additional local guides. Amanda’s hard work and attention to detail was impressive which helped to deliver a smooth run tour. She was very knowledgeable of her county.
I wouldn’t have tried to do this trip for the first visit to China as a lot of organising, understanding their ways and having some Chinese phrases learned as the majority Chinese didn’t speak any English. Most would let you speak into their phones for translation. I’m sure this will rapidly change as tourism increases.
The Chinese were so welcoming and warm. Most of us were asked to pose for photographs taken with them. They love and are proud of their country. They are encouraged to see their country too which is why there were so many of them making it busy at the tourist spots.
My post office prepaid card didn’t work at any ATM. Taking more Chinese currency worked well.
I travelled solo along with other singles and couples (15 of us). Our group got on well and looked out for each other. The hotels were better than I had expected with a good breakfast included. The chosen restaurants for lunch and dinner gave us a chance to taste the different local cuisine as we travelled through the country. The squat ladies toilets were not my favourite.
If you want more free time or to explore at your own pace then I recommend trying another tour company.

We have just returned from a Wendy Wu “Magnificent China” tour… 21 days. We had an amazing experience seeing all of our bucket list wishes and a whole lot more with a fun group of fellow travellers. Our tour guide Amanda was with us throughout the trip and was absolutely excellent. She ensured that everything ran smoothly right down to where we sat on the bullet trains and planes. She was fun and taught us a lot about Chinese history and culture. Getting around in China is not always easy as a lone traveller due to the language issues so Amanda was always there to translate, help us with any issues day ir night. We were very fortunate to have her as our guide. I would definitely recommend Wendy wu… this is our second trip with them after cambodia and vietnam which was also excellent.

Magnificent China tour went ahead at last. We booked in 2019 and then Covid prevented journey. So pleased we went and saw China. It helped dispel many myths. Fabulous country, great tour led by wonderful Betty, National Tour Director. Betty really made this trip for us. She was so helpful and experienced. We owe her a lot. The tour starts in Beijing, heads to Xian, Chengdu, Yichan, Guilin, Yangshuo and ends in Shanghai. Wonderful experience of a magnificent country. Thank you Wendy Wu. We will hope to join you again some day.

It was my Dads dream to climb The Great Wall of China so we booked the Wendy Wu Experience China Tour (we had never been to China before) and we go so much more than we expected. Ivy was our National guide and she was with us every step of the way from the second we landed in China! We were made to feel welcome by Ivy as well as our local guides Troy, Nick and Jade who were very knowledgeable of the history of all the sites we visited. All our guides also had a great sense of humour and went above and beyond answering our questions and making our trip enjoyable. When my dad and I finally climbed the Great Wall we had already made so many great memories across Shanghai, Xi’an and Beijing that the Great Wall became just one more highlight in a trip full of highlights and Wow moments!

This tour proved to be a wonderful experience highlighting most of the sites on anyone's bucket list for China. The Great Wall; Beijing with all its magnificent temples and historical buildings; Terracotta Warriors; Yantzi River cruise; Panda's in Chongqing; the breathtaking Li River and the financial centre of Shanghai.

The tour Director, Addison, was first class, knowledgeable, friendly and went out of his way to ensure everyone got the maximum value from the trip. He was very passionate about China and made sure that we all had a good time and happy memories of the country.

I would recommend this tour to anyone wishing to see the major attractions that China has to offer.

An absolutely excellent tour. This was the first Wendy Wu tour to China post Covid. We climbed the Great Wall near Beijing, visited the Warriors in Xian, met the pandas one of which was celebrating his birthday .We had a cruise down the Yangtze with our local river guide Andy Lee, a trip down the Li river and experienced the magnificent Shanghai. Our National Guide Addison couldn't do enough for us. He was both very personable and extremely informative. Thanks to our local guides too - Cathy, Hoffman, Shirley, Steven and Dawn not forgetting lovely Yangkee in the Minorities' area. A wonderful trip and surely the Wonders of China with 27 other travelling companions who became friends.

Loved this city which was part of our Wendy Wu "Wonders of China " tour (September 2023).
We flew from Beijing not knowing the treasures that lay ahead of us over the next two days. Our intrepid "family" of travellers was led by Addison, our wonderful national tour guide & native of Xian.
On the first day of arrival, we visited the Muslim Quarters with its many stalls selling snacks & trinkets.
The highlight of the day was the Tang Dynasty dancing show & the sampling of the traditional Shui Jiao dumplings.
We met the cast afterwards in the foyer for a photoshoot.
The following day we viewed the enigmatic ranks of the 7,000 soldiers, horses & chariots unearthed in three 'pits' towards the end of the last century. The Terracotta Warriors were built in life-sized form by thousands of workers & designed by Emperor Qin Shi Hyang to defend himself in the afterlife.
The archaeological digs are still active & far from complete. Only one figure ( the kneeling archer) was unearthed in complete form. All the others were in small pieces & it was a mammoth task to recreate them all for display!
We were the first group after Covid 19 to visit China 🇨🇳 & to celebrate this fact Wendy Wu arranged for us to dress in National costumes for a video that took place on the Xian ancient city walls dating back to the Ming Dynasty in the 14th Century . A wonderful time was had by all.
Later that day, we had a tour of the city by night where the ancient Bell Tower & City Walls were emblazoned with dramatic lighting.
I could have stayed longer in beautiful Xian & Addison made our visit a sheer delight with his energy & depth of knowledge.
Addison is a marvellous ambassador for his town, his country & the Wendy Wu company that he so proudly represents.
