- Hiroaki KanekoTokyo, Japan3,521 contributionsA little short as a viewing spot大通公園のランドマークとして、今も尚存在感を保っているスポットです。 It's a landmark of Odori Park and still maintains a strong presence. Although it's called "TV Tower," most of the TV transmitting stations have been moved to Mt.Teine, and only a few stations use the tower for transmitting, relaying, and transmitting broadcast waves, so it's better to think of it as a tourist spot. The Sapporo TV Tower consists basically of an observation deck and souvenir shop at 90 meters above ground level, although there are several restaurants or eating areas. Take the elevator up to the Sky Lounge on the 3rd floor and purchase a ticket for the observation deck in the Sky Lounge (the ride to the Sky Lounge on the 3rd floor is free). A special elevator will take you up to the observation deck. The observation deck of the JR Tower, which is directly connected to Sapporo Station, is 160 meters above the ground, and there are many observation decks in Japan that are more than 100 meters above the ground, so the height of 90 meters above the ground may seem a little inadequate. In addition, there are several skyscrapers in the vicinity of the TV tower, and some of the views are obstructed by these buildings. It might be better not to have too high expectations. In addition, due to the structure of the TV tower, there are several places where the steel frame penetrates through the observation deck, which makes the observation deck seem smaller than it is. Tall people in particular need to be careful when passing through the observation deck, as there is a high possibility of hitting their heads. At the same time, it's not impossible for people with disabilities, such as wheelchairs, to pass through the observatory, but it is undeniable that the penetrating steel frame makes it feel narrower than it is. You may want to go up there once to commemorate your visit to Sapporo, but it's not a spot you will want to visit again and again.Visited August 2023Travelled soloWritten 27 September 2023
- alshaneKota Kinabalu, Malaysia495 contributionsOnly visit if you have time to killWe visited the tower at sunset in order to see the view both in daylight and at night. It costs JPY1000 to go up 90.38m to the observation deck, where we can get 360 degrees view all around Sapporo. Take the lift to 3F, buy ticket, and take another lift up to the top. The sun sets behind the mountain range to the west. The observation deck also sells many souvenirs at a reasonable price, comparable to those in other shops. OK to visit if you have time to kill or if getting a high vantage point of view is a priority, otherwise you don't lose much (in fact save enough for a ramen) not going up the tower.Visited October 2023Travelled with familyWritten 6 November 2023
- Ryan M2 contributionsGreat view at night!I went around 5:30pm, when it was dark. Looking down at the lights of the city in the pitch black was amazing. The vibe of the staff member I spoke to at reception was a bit off but I understand since I was trying to communicate in very broken Japanese. It's definitely a 'must do' while visiting Sapporo, it's not too expensive (1,000円) and it is a nice experience.Visited October 2023Travelled soloWritten 15 November 2023

Whether you want an upside view of the city and the park , this somehow represent an iconic part of the city together with the clock tower and Odori park. Photo opportunities are a must as well .

The tower could be seen easily while strolling along the Odori. It was considered as the symbol of modern Sapporo, looked beautiful at night with many colourful LED.

We were lucky to be there on a clear (and snowy) day. We were able to get clear views of the city, including the mountains. The ticket counter is on level 3 and you take a lift up to the observatory. It's worth a visit (if you have time) when visiting the Odori Park.
