- alshaneKota Kinabalu, Malaysia602 contributionsOnly visit if you have time to killWe visited the tower at sunset in order to see the view both in daylight and at night. It costs JPY1000 to go up 90.38m to the observation deck, where we can get 360 degrees view all around Sapporo. Take the lift to 3F, buy ticket, and take another lift up to the top. The sun sets behind the mountain range to the west. The observation deck also sells many souvenirs at a reasonable price, comparable to those in other shops. OK to visit if you have time to kill or if getting a high vantage point of view is a priority, otherwise you don't lose much (in fact save enough for a ramen) not going up the tower.Visited October 2023Travelled with familyWritten 6 November 2023
- Ryan M10 contributionsGreat view at night!I went around 5:30pm, when it was dark. Looking down at the lights of the city in the pitch black was amazing. The vibe of the staff member I spoke to at reception was a bit off but I understand since I was trying to communicate in very broken Japanese. It's definitely a 'must do' while visiting Sapporo, it's not too expensive (1,000円) and it is a nice experience.Visited October 2023Travelled soloWritten 15 November 2023

- Deanosaur89Edmonton, Canada8,617 contributionsWalked by a few times but went up T38 InsteadThe Sapporo TV Tower is near the Susukino and Odori Park areas. When we visited in December there was a good winter/Christmas market near the base of the tower and a light festival in the Odori Park. We walked by several times during our visit and enjoyed it most when it was lit up at night but decided not to go up it. We had done the T38 Tower/Observatory at Sapporo Station the day before and did not think the Sapporo Tower was worth it when we visited because it was shorter, the observation deck is lower, and it cost a bit more at 1000 yen/person when we visited Sapporo while the T38 Tower was 740 yen/person. We had a very positive experience at the T38 Tower and did not think the Sapporo TV Tower view/experience could top it.Visited December 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 31 August 2024

It's a landmark of Odori Park and still maintains a strong presence.
Although it's called "TV Tower," most of the TV transmitting stations have been moved to Mt.Teine, and only a few stations use the tower for transmitting, relaying, and transmitting broadcast waves, so it's better to think of it as a tourist spot.
The Sapporo TV Tower consists basically of an observation deck and souvenir shop at 90 meters above ground level, although there are several restaurants or eating areas. Take the elevator up to the Sky Lounge on the 3rd floor and purchase a ticket for the observation deck in the Sky Lounge (the ride to the Sky Lounge on the 3rd floor is free). A special elevator will take you up to the observation deck. The observation deck of the JR Tower, which is directly connected to Sapporo Station, is 160 meters above the ground, and there are many observation decks in Japan that are more than 100 meters above the ground, so the height of 90 meters above the ground may seem a little inadequate. In addition, there are several skyscrapers in the vicinity of the TV tower, and some of the views are obstructed by these buildings. It might be better not to have too high expectations. In addition, due to the structure of the TV tower, there are several places where the steel frame penetrates through the observation deck, which makes the observation deck seem smaller than it is. Tall people in particular need to be careful when passing through the observation deck, as there is a high possibility of hitting their heads. At the same time, it's not impossible for people with disabilities, such as wheelchairs, to pass through the observatory, but it is undeniable that the penetrating steel frame makes it feel narrower than it is.
You may want to go up there once to commemorate your visit to Sapporo, but it's not a spot you will want to visit again and again.

The TV tower is a must see even if you only go to the second or third floor via elevator or walk up like we did. They have a very large souvenir shop that is always packed with people. There was a Picachoo that was outside the tower greeting people.

I visited the tv tower yesterday. It’s super convenient as its next to Odori park and is easy to find. For those who don’t want to walk, there are elevators/ lifts that take you to the top.
If you are adventurous, like I was, you can climb the central stair case all the way to the top to reach the observation deck. The staff provide a bottle of water for free on hot days if you do this. Doing the stairs means you get to view the sights for longer and there is a good breeze as its metal mesh (you won’t get too hot!) After completing, you’ll receive a certificate saying you climbed the tower. If you need assistance, there is a staff member 1/2 way.
The tower itself is smaller and the deck not too big but the views were incredible! Make sure to go on a sunny day to get the best view! There is also a small fortune shrine so make sure you have 200 yen to use this! Plenty of photo opportunities.
Two shops - one at the top and one at the bottom- and for those collecting stamps, the machine is next to the exit lifts by the bigger shop.
Overall, a really good activity for someone who has just arrived in Sapporo like me and wants a view of the city!

I walked the 352 steps up to the 3rd floor and it was a killer. haha
Reasonable price at ¥720 (about $10 Australian dollars).
Very small at the observation deck with souvenir stalls all around (leave it for the exit, surely!).
Nice views of the mountains and of the city.
The views are not breath-taking due to only being 90 metres above ground, but they are still great.
I'd recommend doing this. It's worthwhile and the cost is extremely reasonable.

We were lucky to be there on a clear (and snowy) day. We were able to get clear views of the city, including the mountains. The ticket counter is on level 3 and you take a lift up to the observatory. It's worth a visit (if you have time) when visiting the Odori Park.

Located in Odori Park, Sapporo, this radio tower is 147.2 meters high. It is a symbol of Sapporo and was built in 1956. Every day during my stay in Sapporo, I would pass by to check the time and look up at the observation deck about 90 meters above the ground. When I came here at night before, I enjoyed climbing and seeing the grid roads and the town. The tower itself is beautiful with light at night.
