If you are ever visiting Sapporo with kids, take your time to go to this place. It's not only interesting, it's almost overwhelming with lots of little experiments, displays, demonstrations, things to learn, feel, listen to, observe, try... They have different sections: biology, DNA, video laboratory, light, sound, mirrors, vibrations, music, snow, planets, human body, robots, cars and trains... lots of stuff for every taste and age group. I had just as much fun as my kid did and actually learned something too.
It takes a while to get around, we got pretty tired and hungry eventually, there are a couple of rooms where you can eat, it's better if you bring your own food, since they only have vending machines there and it's mostly beverages. There is a planetarium, which we had to leave because it was dark and my daughter got scared, and we were pretty tired by then anyway (like I said, it's almost overwhelming). There is a small gift shop, it's inexpensive, but there's not much there.
I recommend this place for adults too. It's even a nice place a couple can go and enjoy the fun science thingies. Great for every age, really!

This science center is about 30 mins subway from Odori Staton. Drop at Shin Sapporo Station and it is situated just right beside /outside .
The opening hours should be around 930 am. Tickets are sold on the spot ground floor. With options for set of ticket of (1) exhibition room+ planetarium or (2) exhibition room only. Secondary School students and below are given free admission. (Google its website for details)
Many science exhibits with a total of about 3 levels on space, heat, planets, trains,weather, light, cars, traffic etc. Some are interactive. Just to note that the exhibits description are in Japanese. So most tourists may need some self interpretation and phone apps to translate. Nevertheless most of it should be interesting, creative and good learning for children up to teenagers.
The planetarium have schedule for their shows. It's a big 360 deg kind of theatre showing space or planets or moon (depending on the title one had chosen).
The narration is in Japanese, show takes about 30 mins if remembered correctly. IMO The show is a bit slow moving one may skip if you gets bored easily.
Souvenir store, Food and Drinks (from vending machine) is found in the ground floor around the ticket purchase.
Great place to visit for kids or family.
Cater 1/2 day should be sufficient. IMHO. :-)

This science center is awesome as there are so many exhibits and interactive displays. We spent hours here without realising it. We brought our 10 yr old along and he enjoyed it too. This place would have gotten 5 stars if there were English to accompany the displays. Everything was in Japanese and we could only guess what the displays do or react based on how we interact with it. It would have been an educational time for my son if we could explain better what we were looking at. Right now, it's definitely catered to locals only, but this could generate more tourism IF they consider some English text on all the displays. Take a page out of the Cup Noodle Museum in Yokohama. Now that's tourist-friendly.

We took a chance with this place and were more than pleasantly surprised. The kids absolutely loved the place (even the adults) and we spent the entire day there. For non- Japanese speaking crowd, can skip the Planetarium, which in essence is a thematic lecture with video, presented entirely in Japanese. Head straight for the museum instead. It’s 2-storey worth of interactive science exhibits which allow for ample hands-on experience. Best for kids aged 6 to 12.
The ticket allows for multiple entries during the same day, so you can also skip out to the mall next to the science Centre for lunch.

The main exhibition halls are filled with interactive exhibits, suitable for both children and adults with an interest in science. It is possible to take the controls of a train, play with magnets, use a body scanner and generate electricity, and many more. We saw a robot show, with a robot that could play soccer and score a goal! Great for families, or anyone with an interest in science. We spent a few hours here, and visited both the planetarium show and the main exhibition halls. The planetarium show is only presented in Japanese, it was good but we did not fully understand it as we are not fluent in Japanese

Paid for tickets to visit the Exhibition Rooms as the Planetarium was in Japanese which we couldn't understand. The exhibits were interactive with a press button but most are worn out or not functioning and explanation texts are in Japanese. The concepts displayed are more suitable, educational & entertaining for preschoolers, boring for older children, teens & adults (The Hokkaido University Museum is so much more interesting/educational/impressive and foc). Not recommended as a tourist itinerary unless u have too much time and some extra money to spare.

We go to science museums on almost every trip we take so have visited
several from London to Zurich to Shanghai. This was probably the best we have been to yet!
We were greeted by a lady who had English cards so we could buy the right tickets which was promising, however inside English was very limited. However it didn’t matter as everything was interactive and a lot explained with images. We all played for a couple of hours, with our teenager lasting a little longer but our nine year old wanting to stay past the fourth hour!
This is a really good interactive museum which is just so much fun for kids. Highly recommended.

Sapporo science museum is a bit old but well preserve and good place for young kids to learn and play. Unfortunately most information and instruction here are only in japanese. However the staff is very friendly to help if you have any questions.
Notes:
- dont miss out the space adventure ride simulator. Its a bit old but fun. My 7 years old boy have a good fun.
- no restaurant or cafe within the facility, only place to seat and purchase thru vending machine (you can even purchase hot dog thru vending machine)
- make sure the check the show runtime before come
- the science center has several package from basic to other activities like planetarium. Unfortunately its only in japanese
- kids are free, adult need to pay

This place was totally amazing! I went there for how many times. If your kid loves discoveries, then this place should be in your bucket list! You will have fun and you can also learn something! They have a lot of sections that can be easily learned by the kids because it doesn't bored you, instead it makes you more curious about the science, than ever! I really do think that this place is good for all ages that loves science. Well, I am 14 years old now but still want to visit this kind of museums. You won't regret going there! I swear.
