The experience in the museum was amazing and unique. However the service and visitors handling were not excellent at all. Unclear information about free tour and premium tour and also restaurants reservation info. There’s is non reserved slot but the waiting list duration is unbelievable 3 hours. There’s no welcoming stuff at the entrance so you have to figure out by your self. The worst part is when we went shopping at souvenir shop, i found one RUDE cashier staff. Who was not patient at all im explaining to us and grumpy and they packed out stuff that we purchased in a very harsh way.

The building itself is a brick structure built in the Meiji era, and is designated as a Hokkaido Heritage Site. However, the interior of the building is accessible to all, with an elevator and other features that make it easy to enjoy. The Sapporo Beer Garden and the Sapporo Beer Museum are open to the public free of charge. The beer tasting service is available only for those who participate in the premium tours. The exhibition covers not only beer itself, but also the history of various global and familiar beer-related issues, such as the trials and tribulations from the introduction of beer in Japan to the present, the hardships of running a business in a turbulent period of the Great Depression and numerous wars, and the evolution of Sapporo Beer's symbolic star and advertisements. The exhibition includes not only beer itself, but also the history of various global and familiar matters related to beer. The slightly dimly lit rooms, stylish display style, and not too many exhibits (it takes less than an hour to go around the museum) make it a museum that anyone can enjoy. Each exhibit has explanations in Chinese and Korean as well as Japanese, so foreign visitors can easily enjoy the exhibits. Perhaps because the museum is free of charge, there is no staff on duty.

The grounds and buildings were beautiful, especially so against the backdrop of a blue sky. We were here early autumn, the leaves have started changing colours while some sunflowers are still alive from the summer, so we enjoyed the scenery very much. The free self-guided tour of the museum begins with an elevator ride to 3F, from there we walked down a circular walkway along a huge beer-making cauldron to reach 2F. There are two videos that we can watch on the big screen, one about the history of Sapporo beer, and another one about the building itself. On the same floor is an open gallery with pictures and descriptions in Japanese, though information cards in English are also available on the side. After walking through the gallery, a flight of stairs brings us down to the Star Hall on 1F, which is the paid tasting area. If you are interested to taste the beer here, then join the queue, buy a ticket at the machine, and collect your beer at the counter. The beer is served in 240ml glasses, most people will order the "Three drink tasting set" which consists of Kaitakushi, Classic, and Black Label, for JPY1000. If ordered separately each drink is JPY400. Recommended if you wish to try Kaitakushi draft beer, or to visit the grounds on a day with clear blue sky.

You can pay for a premium tour which you have to book far in advance or you can show up for a free tour. You still get to see a large brew kettle and there is lots of signage to read. The main signage is in Japanese but there are cards in English at each station. It might be worth going later in the day for the free tour. We went right when the museum was open at 11 am and it was a little crazy with a large crowd. There is a beer hall where you can buy beer or flights for decent prices. I got a flight of three kinds for 1000 yen and enjoyed it. Go for the "Classic" kind if you only want one because it is only available in Sapporo! The gift shop is fairly priced and there is an area for stamping. While I was enjoying my beer my wife made a reservation at the restaurant desk for the beer hall restaurant where we had delicious Genghis Khan grilled lamb! If you're not into beer try a sour!

Took quite an effort to get there on a Sunday - not many buses go there. We went around 4 hoping to do the museum, shop and have tea but it was all done in about 15 minutes. The flight of beers tasting sessions finish at 4 which we had no idea about. The museum itself is a lot of reading.

It is winter. It is a weekend. It is peak hour. Expect crowd in this one of the top attractions in Sapporo. Exhibit was great. Well explained and chronological in approach. Pressed with time I just got the free visit. It was a quick history. Time wastage however comes with the beer hall with everyone excited to have a sampler. Purchasing it with a vending equipment to get your ticket , it would also be hard to get a seat.

We got here at half 2pm in taxi, there were a quite a crowd already. The premium had been sold out, no choice but go for the freebie tour. Quite informative short videos at the mini theatre, well laid out chronological exhibits in Japanese, with English cards on the side. The highlight is probably the beer sampling. You purchase the tickets at the vending machine, cash, credit card or eWallet. Collect at the bar, and we managed a table seating despite the crowd. JPY 1,000 for three beers sampler. Kaitakushi beer, a mild and smooth beer which I couldn't find at the local stores.

One of the must see attraction when in Sapporo. The place is easily accessible by direct bus from Sapporo station. The museum ground is quite big with some of the other buildings converted into beer garden serving BBQ. The museum itself is located in the main building and admission is free. One can also sign up in advanced for the guided tour online if interested. We did the free walking tour, as there are English translation of the exhibit panels available and there is greater freedom to move at own pace. The museum is well curated with plenty of interesting exhibits tracing the history of the brewery and explaining how the Sapporo brand became iconic Japanese beer it is today. Love seeing how the label has evolved over the years and how beer posters have changed with the times. The free walking tour ends at the beer tasting hall, when one can use the vending machine to place order to sample the different types of beer at the own cost. Recommend the tasting set which offers opportunity to sample 3 of its more popular label at 1000 JPY. There are also non-alcoholic beverages available for anyone below 20 years old (which is the minimum drinking age in Japan). One should set aside at least a couple of hours to properly explore the place and to enjoy a nice cold beer at the end.

This is THE must see attraction when in Sapporo - it's very easy to get to, and is gorgeous. The 'museum' is interesting, such as it was, but lets be honest - you are here for the beers. There's a unique beer here, only in Sapporo, and two others to taste in the beautiful tasting hall. Hokkaido specific products are available at the end... we got the oyster Pringles to try!

If you are beer drinker and curious about how Sapporo ended up making beer, this is a good place to visit. However, exhibits are in Japanese but there are QR codes you can scan to read in your language of choice. Not much to see but the beer tasting (Y1000) for 3 small pints of beer is my highlight.
