About
Typical night view enjoyment spot in Sapporo authorized by "the Japanese new three big night view" in October, 2015. To the extent the night view which can look a ropeway and a MORISU car (mini cable car) around 360 deg from a mountain top observatory of the altitude 531m which takes and arrives is also called "northern jewelry box", that it shines, when I'm shining also it's fine for the daytime as well as the night view, a far place as well as Sapporo-shi district can even look Shokanbetsu chain of mountains and Ishikari bay around. It's possible to go up summertime by car in Moiwayama sightseeing motorway (charge) to the Mid station, and it's possible to enjoy about 3.5 kilometers of freeway (A winter season closes.) At the Mid station, Mt. MOIWA, there is a stand where I get a large selection of original products of the mascot character "MORISU", and a takeout section is also next to the planetarium, the casual French restaurant where you can have a meal while enjoying the scenery "THE JEWELS" and the restaurant at the mountain top station, and it's also enriched in the facilities. It's barrier free full equipment in order to have many people enjoy in the facilities again, and a guide announcement in a ropeway MORISU car stop is also doing correspondence of English, Chinese and Korean.

The view over Sapporo was amazing, a definite winter wonderland. We sat inside the cafe with a hot drink & soaked in the atmosphere of the snow & scenery outside. An awesome time had in the snow. We rang the summi bell.Visited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 7 February 2024
- Scott H9 contributionsSapporo is fun!Such a fun time! Sapporo was great. Such great food. We went for the Sapporo Snow Festival in 2024 and it was fantastic. While you’re there definitely try Miso Ramen and Curry Soup from Suage+ Honten. The Sapporo Beer Museum and Genghis Khan in the food hall there was delicious and such a fun experience. Will definitely go back to check out what Sapporo has to offer during the summer months. It was an easy trip via ANA airlines from Haneda airport from Tokyo.Visited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 22 February 2024
- Dingo_6152Fremantle, Australia3,327 contributionsThe views at the top and worth the journeyMount Moiwa is a small, forested mountain lookout, about 5km southwest of the centre of Sapporo. It is accessible by a ropeway from the base of the mountain which goes about ¾ of the way up where you then switch to a small cable car which takes you to the summit. It runs between 10:30am and 10:00pm, with the roundtrip for the ropeway at ¥1,400 and ¥700 for the cable car roundtrip. There is an open observation deck, restaurant, shop and restrooms at the summit, toilets and a small gallery at the transfer station, and toilets at the base. The lookout at the summit can get quite popular, because of the spectacular views from the summit, particularly after sunset, when the city lights up. We went in the afternoon during summer, so we avoided the queues that you experience at peak times. It is worth the visit to get a great perspective of where you are.Visited June 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 13 July 2024

Getting out here on public transport was ok but took us a few connections and therefore took a while, but it was totally worth it. We headed up after dark and got to see the lights of the city which is pretty picturesque. There are also a few places on the observation deck to take photos. The ropeway and fenicular are fairly quick to get you to the top, but run at set intervals so they can be a queue, particaurly at night coming back down. When we arrived the queue was approx an hour to go back down and we probably only spent about 15 minutes at the top. Thankfully things had cleared somewhat by then.
May not be the easiest place to get to by public transport but very doable and definitely worth going up for some really lovely views of the city. It got a thumbs up from my teenage daughter as well.

The view is amazing from the top. The ropeway price is relatively steep at 2100 yen per pax for a return ticket. I do see people trekking up the hill but wouldn't recommend it for the usual tourist.

Read about this place and decided to try it since it was not too far from our hotel. Took street car then free shuttle bus to the ropeway station. Paid ¥1700 per person for return trip for ropeway and mini cable car. The weather was cold and windy. But the view was fantastic. The cable car was very steady. Feel safe when riding it. From the top we can see the city view. Nice experience and we reached there around 5pm and already dark. Lucky me!

Went with my family on recommendation. The observatory is open air and it was a chilly night for us. Everyone shuddered a bit while waiting patiently for their turn to ring the bell. The views are OK but not extraordinary spectacular. Everyone went for the hot drinks once in door.
Tip: There are express bus covered by JR pass to and from Sapporo station.

Visited with family
Pros
1) There was a free shuttle from the tram station. As usual, the shuttle driver was helpful especially we had a baby in tow.
2) Went there right after breakfast, which was just right for a family with baby. But it would have been more perfect night time with the city lights view.
3) Weather was nice. Coming from a tropical country, the almost winter weather was nice and cooling.
4) They had several snack shops and a restaurant, so food is not really a problem.
5) Some of my family members opted to hike going up Mt. Moiwa but most of us took the cable car which had amazing views. Mt Moiwa is perfect for hikers!
6) The place was picturesque.
7) There is also a souvenir shop, toilet is not a problem.
If you love outdoors and nice views this place is for you! Very recommended!

Easy way to get there is to take the tram (streetcar). There’s only one tram line and it makes a loop through the city. The Ropeway Iriguchi tram stop where you want to get off is about half way around the loop if you get on where most tourists do: on the street above the Susukino subway stop. So you can’t get on the wrong tram or go the wrong way. Riding the tram is a fun & cheap way to get a tour of the City’s various neighborhoods. The trams run on parallel tracks in opposite directions: some go clockwise around the loop and others go counter-clockwise. At Susukino, there are two separate tram stations, one for each direction, around the corner from each other. The tram stations have a video display that shows the whole loop and where each tram is on the loop in real time, so you can see where the oncoming tram is. If it’s too far away, you can cross the street to get the tram going the other direction. Check how many people are getting on – locals use the tram for commuting so, for example, in the afternoon the trams going counter-clockwise are much more crowded than the ones going clockwise from the Susukino station. Like buses, you get on in the middle of the tram and exit out the front door, paying at the farebox as you leave. Fare is a flat ¥200 for adults no matter how far you go. It’s best if you have an IC commuter card so you can pay by touch instead of fumbling for coins. At the Ropeway Iriguchi station, the free shuttle bus is diagonally across the intersection. You can’t miss it because there’s an obvious bus turnout there and anyway half the passengers on the tram will be walking there. Most people ride the bus even though the Ropeway is only a few blocks away, because it is steeply uphill. Getting on the cable car, go to the back of the car since as the car travels up the mountain the views of the city are in the back. Up front, all you see are trees. Once at the top, my tip is to buy the roasted potato cheese stick. Looks like a roasted popsicle made of mashed potato. It’s one of those simple hot snacks that are unbelievably good. So good I had to buy a second one.

We went to the ropeway today, thought it strange we couldn’t see any cable cars moving... turns out there was an accident here on Aug 24 and it has been closed since... no word on when it will reopen.

Hi,
We are going there on week 3 of December. Planning to visit Mt. Moiwa to visit the fortune bell and love padlock. Is there a ski resort there? Is Algaeyama Ski Resort in that area?
Thank you.

A visitor just posted that the Ropeway is closed. If so, can we still visit Mt Moiwa by other means of public transport? We are not driving. Appreciate your advice. Thanks.

Don’t think so, the rope way is first part. From rope way to summit, you can walk or take Morris car. Taxi?

Please explain how I get to Mt. Moiwa from Sapporo train station?
Written 9 March 2018
From Sapporo station take the subway namboku line to susukino station. From susukino station take the sapporo shiden (tram) to Ropeway Iriguchi station. Cross the street from the station and you can ride the free shuttle bus going to Moiwa Sanroku station. From there you need to buy the admission ticket (One way or two way) in going to the top of Mt. Moiwa.

Hello, I hope you are doing great!
Do you know how long it takes to walk up and down the mountain? Instead of taking the ropeway?
Thanks very much in advance :)

Enjoy!

Hi, can I transfer to nishi jugo station streetcar from subway line nishi juhatchome station , and ride to ropeway iriguchi station to take the shuttle bus to mt moiwa ? If yes , which direction I should proceed from nishi juhatchome station ?

From my experience
I took the street car from susukino subway. it cost around ¥170 . the street car was going around in a circle so u won't get lost though. And u can ask the driver to drop u at the free shuttle bus stop for mt. moiwa. when arrived u can buy the tickets for tram n cable car to the mt moiwa. at the top floor of the building. for the bonus is u can download the sapporo application on your phone so u can get disc for the tram n cable car n also street car.
