Unlike temples, once you visit a shrine, they all look similar. Temples have different statues, so it's more exciting. The only shrine worth visiting in Hiroshima is Itsukushima Jinja in Miyajima.

Close to Hiroshima station. It was nice, but I mostly came for the walking tra behind the shrine with over 500 stone steps and 100torii gates.

Lots of walking and climbing around this trail, there are 16 temples/shrines to cover so you really have to pick what physique and time you have many are grouped together and many have lots of steps like this one. The shrine has a Chinese style gate and the temple grounds are very quiet and peaceful to walk around , around the back there is an entrance up to the higher shrine and a lot of small Torii gates to walk through as you climb the steep pathway up the hill to Mt Futaba.

Do note that the few famous shrines/temples are located on the other side (Northern side) of the JR station, with bus access and hills as the backdrop.. 東照宮is also part of the famous Futaba-no-sato Historical Walking Trail 二葉の里, one of the many temples/shrines to visit.
We made an early morning trip here. From the JR station we took about 20 mins stroll and reached the lower entrance. This followed by quite a climb up the steps, but be rewarded with a elevated view of the surrounding ontop!
Toshogu is built on the hillside overlooking Hiroshima city. The main shrine (honden) is actually located below a few smaller shrines and holy places connected by a hill trail from the back of the main shrine. Which we did not explore .. maybe next time
It was only about 10am and found it a very quiet Shinto Shrine - there was only a family of 4 with their newborn. It's a small shrine with lovely carvings on the entryway The premise boast the vibrant orange colours all over with fluttering banners, simply amazing... We didn't stay long and there wasn't much to see,.
It was so peaceful, tranquil and special in its own way. Take some time to pay attention to the stone torii near the main road at entrance, it has survived the 1945 atomic bomb devastation. Do note it is also reachable by the Meipuru-pu Hiroshima Sightseeing Loop bus at the Hiroshima Toshogu Shrine stop.
We have visited Toshogu shrines in Tokyo Ueno, Nagoya and even Nikko. This is unique.

A very quiet Shinto Shrine - there was no body else here when I visited. The vibrant orange colours on the buildings at the shrine are amazing. In a small building behind the main shrine there is a very ornate cart - well worth seeing. The shrine continues well up the hill behind the main compound area - it is a steep climb, only for the very fit, not me on this occasion.

Be prepared to go up a lot of steep steps to reach the top of the hill where the temple is located. When I reached the top, I was rewarded with viewing a ceremony of what seemed lie a child's blessing. First, a monk beat a large drum, then another monk came and talked to the family while another one chanted. It was mystical and other wordly. I loved seeing this and exploring the remaining temple. I later learned that the stone gate at the bottom survived the nuclear bomb. 10 min bus ride on the sightseeing bus from the Peace Memorial Park. Worth seeing!

Wear your comfy shoes, their are lots of stairs, especially if you continue your walk all the way up the hill behind the temple to the Peace Pagoda.

We got off the Meipuru-pu Hiroshima Sightseeing Loop bus at the Hiroshima Toshogu Shrine (stop 14). We arrived after 5pm, so there was no one at the shrine. It's a small shrine with lovely carvings on the entryway. We didn't stay long and there wasn't much to see, but it might be more accessible when open earlier in the day.

If we didn't see the shrine mentionned in a guide, we would probably miss it. This one is located on the other side of the train station, then the other side of the city and touristic places.
This one was suggested as the stone torii survived to the the atomic bomb.
We went by foot from the station, but maybe a bus is passing nearby. It was worth to go, as the shrine is a nice place, no tourist (well even nobody), place was peaceful. There are lot of stairs, so take your time to climb.
We expected to collect a Goshuin, but there were no monk.
